My name is sapient (he/him), and I'm 90% metalhead.

Prepare for plenty of chugga-chugga with a sprinkling of meeedly-meedly on top.

Thank you for the comments, man! Yeah, that kind of silly, stumbling, simplistic and raw black metal is very close to my heart.
[avatar]
Thanks for your kind and entertaining comment on Chthonic Triad! It got a laugh out of me 😀 Yes it was a great excuse to buy a new kit and I was not disappointed. Congrats on your FAWM win!
[avatar]
I ADORE TRoB as well! Flawless discography! I've seen them thrice now. They were playing last weekend at the black metal fest in Tallinn I told you about.
[avatar]
hahaha hellz nah 🤣 synth v baby
[avatar]
Thanks for the comment on "I Dread This Day"! Was fun trying out a skirmish for the first time. And also busy, hahah!
[avatar]
I think you would especially appreciate the Forevertron. It's very metal.
[avatar]
I didn't do it!!!
[avatar]
Yes and no :D Two songs are updates so I have 10 songs. I will receive one random collab, the digital 4 track and another song is in recording. I'm not sure yet if I will leave it like that or try to write a song 14 just to finish it off... cause I just received a TON of stem for last years projects...

I will catch up on your stuff soon!
[avatar]
Congrats for winning FAWM!
[avatar]
Glad we could do something together. It is always fun to see what you do with my stuff.
[avatar]
My gawd you’re on 12! Will catch up with listens soon! You still wanna collab? I’m in a real funk this evening and self loathing is setting in but from that, I had a small idea for a song that I’m tryna chug out on guitar. It’s not fully realised yet but lemme know if you want me to send it to see if you wanna play too :) no pressure if you hear it and no inspiration comes tho dude!
[avatar]
Continuing the discussion in the forums....
My being stuck is mainly because I cannot mimic my favourite bands, as they use alternate tunings that are not possible with a 6-string. I kind of regret not having bought that 7-string Schecter, but I can't buy a third guitar cause my room is too small.
I'm still searching for songs that could push me more towards metal, that are actually playable for somebody with 2-3 years of practise with standard setup. It is frustrating to know the vision but not the steps to take. Wouldn't mind learning songs I don't know yet, but it should be something that vibes with me. That's why I gave up my lessons.
[avatar]
I love Franky Boy but it's hard!!!!
[avatar]
‘The closing of a brand new Queen song’ - wow that’s a high compliment indeed! Thank you!
[avatar]
Options for running away were limited due to the circumstances, I must admit.

But, in the end, amor vincit omnibus.
[avatar]
Thanks for the comment on "Horn-Crowned"! I may have needed some time to recuperate from my engineering stint, but I guess at least some of the band's vibe rubbed off on me.
[avatar]
Cheers, man! I'll raise a few pints for you!
[avatar]
I definitely am! I'll try to lay some riffs down soon. I'm leaving to Tallinn for this black metal fest called Howls of Winter quite early tomorrow, and will be back on Sunday, so I can't guarantee I'll get something done before that, but next week I'm on vacation, so then at the latest!
[avatar]
Thank you loads! I'm steeling myself (and reinforcing my monitors) in order to reciprocate!

Yes, another! I'll email you
[avatar]
Feel like taking on a poisonous plant with me?
[avatar]
Thanks for the comment on "Flowers of Evil"! This was my first try with the genre even though I've listened to the stuff for a long time now. Glad if I succeeded with it, as I was a bit unsure myself...
[avatar]
Thanks for the comment on "Sewer Satan"! I simply love Elden Ring, though it was quite hard at first despite playing the hell out of Dark Souls and Bloodborne beforehand. Mohg is still a bastard and the sewer version doesn't even bleed, the bastard. Mighty fine source of inspiration, though.
[avatar]
Thanks for your kind words in regard to Here With Me. Hope we can collaborate this year.
[avatar]
Thanks so much, that's high praise!!

Hey I think I asked about a possible collab last year, so if you are up to it at all, I would love to do some vocals or cheap 80s synths for something :D
[avatar]
Thanks for the comments about "Watch Me Do It All", that one definitely grew on me and your comments helped me revisit it :) you may like the most recent one I just made if you're into the heavy guitars...
[avatar]
You can bet your bottom dollar I’ll be tapping on your window 😝 I’ve only visited once many moons ago but Ad never has so want to come back with him in tow!
[avatar]
Ooh I have not but I see it has Barry Keoghan in who I love! I will watch it, thanks for the tip dude!
[avatar]
Cheers for the comments on "Larvae Altar" and "I Mean You Harm", mate! Hahah, I tried to be precise with the first one's liner notes! I've started a death metal band with a couple of friends, and it's been really fun dishing out those boneheaded riffs. Just love that music.
[avatar]
Thanks for the comment on (and inspiration for) my string quartet thing.

You should have said 'the fate of her fiancé's finances', just for the alliteration.
[avatar]
Take a look
You are such a pain
But I love you just the same
You are stubborn as a mule
But I still will play the fool
Love you honey
Love you babe
Won't you love me just the same

Long time ago
When we first met
You were oh so very cool
You were sweet as cherry pie
You were the apple of my eye
So sweet,
so nice
Now you put our love on ice

You're such a pain
But I love you just the same
[avatar]
Thanks for your kind words regarding kids. We had 4, 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. I'm the Papa and Great Papa.
[avatar]
Thank you so much for listening to "Hollow Dreams". Of course a doom song has to be over 4 minutes! There is not enough doom to deal with everything happening! Happy you enjoyed.... and now I have to check Alcest.
[avatar]
Thank you so much! I agree that there are punk vibes (the singing especially), but glad my use of the #metal tag has met your approval.
[avatar]
Hey! I wrote a real metal song. Like, not a jokey one. I'd be honored if you listened and gave me your honest feedback.

Thanks for the comment on "Hammers of Oblivon"! I certainly didn't have Satyricon in mind when writing this ("Valtakunta" by Kotiteollisuus was an obvious inspiration, though the end result is far different sounding) but I guess I often come up with something that sounds like something I didn't think of.
[avatar]
No prob, hope you enjoy them! :)
[avatar]
Cheers for the comment on "Sateen jälkeen kaikki on hiljaa"! I suppose my stuff doesn't straight up sound like Finnish post-punk, but it's more like inspired by it. Among other things. But to mention a few acts:

The absolute classic of Finnish post-punk is "Peilitalossa" by Musta Paraati. You should check them out before anything else. G.O.A.T. stuff, period. Their first singer Jore’s writing style has highly influenced my lyrical style. From the 80s Jore's other project, Silmät, is also highly recommended. Their whole production sadly covers only three songs, but it’s definitely quality over quantity with this one!

In his comment, @hmorg mentioned Jouni Mömmö, the singer of Mana Mana. I’m not sure if I’d categorise them as straight up post-punk, but they’re definitely at least adjacent. Sadly, both Mana Mana and Musta Paraati fall in the tradition of 80s dark music with their frontmen’s untimely departure from this plain of existence.

Of the newer acts, Kuudes silmä and Kesä come to mind as worthy torchbearers of their legacy. Also, Throat definitely shifted from their noise rock past towards gothic rock/post-punk territories with their latest full-length, “We Must Leave You”. I don’t quite consider them to belong in the same movement, though, as they write their lyrics in English. To me, Finnish is a very fitting language for post-punk, and that's kind of how I feel it "should" be done. Still, the aforementioned album might've actually been my favourite of all of 2023 releases.

So there! I’m sorry for the amount of text, but now you know that’s what you get for asking musical recommendations from me :D
[avatar]
Thank you for your kind words on my song Blank Page. Its great to feel appreciated vocally on such a rough demo. Happy FAWM25!
[avatar]
Thanks for the comment on 'It all passes'. Much appreciated and I'm very happy you liked it
[avatar]
Thanks for the listen and comments on 'Lovely Day'
[avatar]
Vocally, you're sounding really good! As the next thing to look at is to try to create more space in your head above your mouth, especially as you have held vowels at the end of lines. It's sort of like you're anticipating the final consonant a little earlier than you need to, and it's closing out the sound.

It's hard to describe these things, but happy to get on a video and show you if you'd like. Again, I'm not saying you're doing anything badly, but these are probably the next things to work on.
[avatar]
Thank you very much. 😊
[avatar]
Awesome! 👹 Can't guarantee I'll get anything down next week yet, but we'll see!
[avatar]
Re: the Ableton Push, imagine someone changed a keyboard into a configurably-diatonic grid, included a drum pad, built in a quantized beat-locked looper and let you control the whole process within the controller while integrating natively with your DAW. It's hard to describe everything that it does, and I've only just started learning it, but it's really cool so far.
[avatar]
Hey, I had a thought. I know that this isn't your usual ballpark, so you're totally free to turn this down and in that case we can just do something on our comfort zone, 'cause we know it's going to be awesome nonetheless. :) BUT. I thought about if I'd write an epic/traditional doom/heavy metal song at some point, would you like to try to pull some clean vocals on that sort of thing? :D I've noticed you've tried the clean singing in recent years, and at least you're way better than I am on it, hahah!
[avatar]
Thanks for the comment on "The Hell of Satans"! I'm quite doubtful that what follows will go to places as much as the intro, but you never know until the material is written.
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment, so happy you enjoyed! I have to get a lot of things out of my system...
As for programming... it's mostly analysing how to play on guitars and good software amps. It's good enough to draft, but I still hear a big difference to real guitars - even using the same amps :O
[avatar]
Hails for the comment on "Cruficy the Elite"! Yeah, might be more of that kind of material in me still, though I at least plan to do some synth stuff and maybe a bit neofolk as well. :) But we'll see!
[avatar]
Hi!! Great to see you here again, excited to hear how hard you thrash this year... 🎸🤘
[avatar]
Greetings to you!! It’s always great to hear your thoughts on the forums and hear all of your brutality and/or beauty in your music each FAWM. One thing that made me smile so far was your comment about greeting all of the dogs and cats on the street….such great juxtaposition with the heavy sapient soundtrack in my head! Have a wonderful FAWM!
[avatar]
Oh hahaha I first thought nahhhh it won’t be but then the first lyric was about suffocation so I was absolutely certain it must be (it’s an underwater exploration game) 😁
[avatar]
Once more into the breach! Y'all have a bunch of fun now.

Biscuits and beer? In America we leave out milk and cookies for Santa. If this makes me FAWM Santa then I am completely about it. Thanks for the shout, and I hope all is well with you and Mrs. Network!

Will there be any djent-djent as well?
[avatar]
Good good! Happy FAWM to you! Can't wait to hear your metal creations this year- last year they were my gym playlist for a long time!
[avatar]
Good day sir. Looking forward to your output as always, espcially if you get a hankering for playing that Tele of yours & doing some more #blackcountry tracks!

Have an awesome FAWM!

See You In The Shadows…

[avatar]
Thanks for your wishes. Nothing more metal than loveliness, is there? Or is there nothing more lovely than metal?

Either way, I look forward to both your chugga and meedly.

Hello my lovely friend I mean RAAAAAAAWWWR!!!!
[avatar]
Deep in my heart, I've always thought of you as the fifth Teletubbie.

Tinky-Winky, Dipsy, Laa Laa, Po, and Abomnium.

If you're only referring to one, is it a Teletubby?
[avatar]
Good to see you back again!
[avatar]
👋
[avatar]
Hello metal nerd!
[avatar]
Chugga-chugga meeedly-meedly hooray yaaaaaaay! 🎸🐐🌈👑😍🦄
[avatar]

Definitely! Maybe a blasphemous collab is in order again this year, hmm? ;)
[avatar]
Get well soon!
[avatar]
"the sound of a gargoyle's digestive system..." has given me an idea for a tune! 😜
[avatar]
Thank you! Can I come to you when I feel like screaming? Or if you need female growls? I'm running a bit dry on lyrics but I have so much frustration piled up that it may relieve a bit 🤣
[avatar]
Woooo hooooooo..... Let's go!! Rock on, my friend. :)
[avatar]
The state of Norway is a bit chilly but .. I mean.. it is kinda expected 😂 I am ready by not doing anything music since last FAWM so what could POSSIBLY go wrong? 🙌 lets do this crazy thing!
[avatar]
Hi Peter. Happy FAWM25! And of course my annual greetings to Laura👋
[avatar]
Welcome back! Ready to rawk? I want to hear your new green guitar!
[avatar]
My noble lord Sapient. Hail and well met!
I'll inform the security gargoyles of your intent, purely to make sure we have no embarrassing incidents involving aerial listening devices. 😉
[avatar]
Hello Peter, looking forward to your songs this year!
[avatar]
Also, I am a unicorn this year, which I am very happy with!
[avatar]
Right back at ya neighbour! Rock on for FAWM!
[avatar]
Ah Lord Sapient! All Hail! I expect lots of screaming guitars (and maybe an ukulele? I know you have one!)

I've reverted to my original FAWM account, so you probably aren't following this one.
[avatar]
Wassappppppppppppppppppppppppppp!!
Do I sound metally?? I've already smashed up my acoustic guitar dude, let's DO THIS! 😀
Haha I mean.. maybe... could be fun yassss! *runs scared and tries taping acoustic back together as will absolutely need that for FAWM*
[avatar]
YAAY RAWK!!!! Have a great FAWM! Good to see you as ever! I will see if i can conjure up a collab idea if you are up for it? i do have a title germ of an idea ;)
[avatar]
Hello once again! "Plenty of chugga-chugga" sounds like just what the doctor ordered. Got time for another science collab next month?
[FAWM]
