Update for 2024: Actually, doing more than dabbling now. FAWM has been life-changing. Having some limited "success" on SPOTIFY with some of my songs. Have a good FAWM folks!

Update for 2023: So far, covid-free...BUT got that darned RSV thing and it has hung around for the last 6 weeks or so, so don't expect my vocals to be quite as...mellifluous.

Update for 2022: I'm still alive! "Heartbreak is my brand™"

Update for 2021: Had a successful 50/90 (my second one completed!), so FAWM should be a piece of cake, right? Hope to stretch my wings genre-wise, per usual. Looking forward to listening to the rest of you.

Update for 2020: Health problems, including NO VOICE so far (writing this on 2/6). I've written lyrics for 6 songs while I wait to recover, so I THINK I'll eventually get my usual 14 in. Stay tuned...

Update for 2019: I'll be putting out my 3rd album (pop) shortly after FAWM 2019 closes, and a 4th (country) album later this year. Going to try and do about half my usual "country" fare this time around and half R&B. FAWM has been life-changing! Good luck to all!

UPDATE FOR 2018!! I have an album out now--all proceeds go to KIVA.org to provide microloans for educating women in developing countries.

Hi Jerry, So glad you liked Our Own Private Love Song, my collab with @blainev83. This was our first collab together, and it was a total pleasure the whole way. I couldn't ask for a more talented and cooperative partner. I love the song, and it keeps playing in my head.
[avatar]
haha, Jerry! My little girl I sing about is now 16. Thankfully, she gets up earlier than me and I don't have to sing that to her :) I do have to get on her to put her clothes away, close drawers, keep her car vacuumed & clean, etc. etc. Please stay in touch this year. I follow you on IG & Youtube. I'll be around in March to catch up on my listening and comments. I really appreciate all of your encouragement, tips, and smiles :)
[avatar]
@sbs
So right about titles and reference to a big name. The next most popular song was “Alamo Smiles” because of the Lana Del Rey reference challenge.
[avatar]
@sbs
Congrats on your 4 years! I remember during Covid you were saying, "I need a woman" - lol! Glad you found a keeper.
[avatar]
Hi, again, Jerry. Just saw your praise on Theodore, my collab with @davidtaro. (How many more Verses would you like me to add?) 😀 I agree with you that David did a marvelous job on the song. I couldn't be more pleased. Thanks for your comments!
[avatar]
Hi, Jerry. Look at all those songs on your page! You've been busy, but not so busy that you couldn't take the time to comment on @gwynjones and my collab, No Present Like The Time. Thank you for listening and appreciating the waltz treatment. I thought Gwyn did an amazing job and I'm glad you enjoyed it and let us know.
[avatar]
Hi Jerry,
Thanks for the comments on "Fire in My Eyes" and Wind in the Willows . Not sure I have had two more extreme opposites for songs ! Much appreciated.
[avatar]
And cheers for the comment on "Brutubölen vampyyrilinna"! Although it's raw and kinda silly, I myself like how it turned out quite a lot :) I'll have to give your metal track a listen!
[avatar]
Thank you for the comment on "The Castle of Pain"! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
[avatar]
Thank you for your kind words on "Back To The Basics" :)
[avatar]
Thanks for listening to mine and Cindyrella's song "No Begging"!
[avatar]
Yeah, I've written some dark lyrics this year. But the world is dark right now, so it's kind of appropriate, really.
[avatar]
Ah, Jerry, I'm always "Here for You". Thanks for yet another visit and the kindness of your comment.,
[avatar]
@sbs
No, "Under the Influence" doesn't have a Nashville vibe but inspired by the story told in "Black Roses," which didn't either. Loved the music in "Nashville," much better than what you actually hear coming out of Nashville for decades now. Really fun to rewatch the show!
[avatar]
ive got a song called omaha, its about a convicted murderer on hs way to the death house who is wishing he was back omaha with his mm and dad. check it out, it is live from a christmas party for borders books and music at seattle's infamous crocodile cafe with my band Tokyo Sex Whale https://billwhite.bandcamp.com/track/omaha
[avatar]
As the class clown you should definitely write some comedy! Personally, my witty repartee only happens in songs. 😄
[avatar]
Thanks Jerry!! My entire family had influenza A a few weeks ago, so I started writing more music in a lower register as I lost my voice. It’s fun to experiment!! 😊🎶
[avatar]
Glad you got to hear "On Love", Jerry. One of the great things about FAWM is the great people we can get to work with and experience.
[avatar]
Thanks for your kind words on “pick-a-cide”. I really appreciate you taking the time to listen and comment.
[avatar]
I would suggest they just let it run with minimal moderation like they used to. It worked great back then.
[avatar]
Hey Jerry, I know we're not supposed to discuss this until everyone is gone but there is a convo about possible alternatives here,

https://write.fawm.org/forums/3063

I have no idea how it may end up.
[avatar]
Thanks, Jerry, on 1965. Definitely for those of us "of a certain age", right?
[avatar]
@sbs
I don't recognize the people in the photo of "Hit Me Up" but he does look familiar, doesn't he? Anyway, you can sign up for the alternative 50/90. Don't know if you saw that (the thread is super long).
[avatar]
Hello @jerrypettit I just posted @marthie's lyrics. Thanks for asking. and thanks for your comments!

Thank you very much, Jerry!!
[avatar]
Thanks for visiting "It's a Crazy World", Jerry. On this issue, there are lots of batons to go around, so give it a whirl (twirl?) and join the club.
[avatar]
Jerry, you are SO nice to listen and comment on my page. Thanks for your enthusiasm for Almost Feels Like Love, my collab with @musend and @hbusse. Two powerhouses to bring the lyrics to life!
[avatar]
Good morning, Jerry. Honored you would kick of part of your morning with Chicken To Go and That's What I Know. Thanks for that and your comments. FYI, the Beatles' stutter on "Birthday" that Macca mentions on p32 is when they go "I would like you to dance/Take a ch-ch-ch-chance".
[avatar]
Oh, I forgot to write that night sky lullaby is not for waking up situations lol. I hope it didn't sent you back to sleep 😴
Thank you for your listens and comments ✨️🎵🎶
[avatar]
THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND WORDS REGARDING IMMIGRANTS. IN MY 88 YEARS WE HAVE NEVER BEEN IN A MESS IN THE WHITE HOUSE AS WE HAVE NOW. HOPE I OUTLIVE HIM.
[avatar]
Thanks much, brother Jerry, for the listen and exceedingly kind words about "Cameo". You know well what a pleasure it can be to coax something out of BIAB that can be manipulated to showcase a lyric and a vocal. I really got a kick out of doing that one. I'm still envious of the quality of your vocal recordings and mixes. I know you told me a while back some of what you do--I'm gonna have to scour my archives for a reminder of those tips.
[avatar]
Alex said he was OK with you doing a second version of Winter Valentine, if you are still interested.
[avatar]
Updated with my music on Winter Valentine!
[avatar]
Checking if Metalfoot would mind a second rendition of Winter Velentine, if you’re still interested. Glad you enjoyed it.
[avatar]
I never expected that any song I had a hand in might contribute to someone's Valentine's Day celebration. Thanks for adopting "Love Came Walking In" as your song for the day, Jerry.
[avatar]
Music is coming this morning!
[avatar]
@sbs
Btw, there is no official 50/90 this year. Some are talking about coming up with an alternative.
[avatar]
Thanks so much for your kind comment on "The Moon Saw Everything" -- I was losing my voice when I recorded it, but I do think that song is one of my best.
[avatar]
Thanks for your kind words, Jerry. Your enthusiasm for my recent work gives me hope that I can continue down this path! 😊
[avatar]
I'm super happy that you enjoyed "Dandelion Wish", Jerry. Cindy's lyrics are always a privilege to work with.
[avatar]
You have to be my most consistent visitor, Jerry and I truly appreciate it. Thanks for adding "Let the Light Return" to your list of listens.
[avatar]
@sbs
I only saw "True Grit" because Glen Campbell was in it. My friend and I had seen him at the Orange County Fairgrounds - she kissed him - I was too shy. This song was written this season when I saw the "Lana Del Rey" challenge. I'd put it in the "May Not Post" folder, but now I like it.
[avatar]
Hi Jerry! Thank you for stopping by again and thank you kindly for the praise. Regarding the making of the videos: I just set up my phone camera in my small studio room and then mimed on top of the already recorded song. Then edited the multiple takes down to what you see on the video. The huge zooms in the first two were due to an unfortunate error in setting the aspect ratio, that is remedied in the "nowhere land" video. That is about it really. I considered using the takes i filmed of me actually doing the live recording but in the end didn't want my goofy studio headphones in the video.
[avatar]
Thanks, Jerry, for breaking the Zong on "Oh How the Sparrow Flies." It's funny how a song seems like very little and then it grows on you. And I always love Steve's words, they often have a twist and turn that surprise and upset my expectations, change what I was expecting. And good for you for letting FAWM change your life. It did mine as well!
[avatar]
Thank you for realizing my effort, Jerry! I keep notebooks with me 24/7. I think it helps me during my workday--to feel like I am still making music even when I don't have the time. I owe the melodies to walks in the woods behind my office!! I get "lost" up in the hills & dales singing into my phone. <3
[avatar]
Yay :) This is the piano piece I was talking about. I added some subtle synths and percussion.
[avatar]
Aww thanks Jerry. You’re too kind!
[avatar]
@sbs
Jerry, are you sure you're the one listening/commenting on my music? It sounds more like your AI assistant - lol! The other day I got this "summary" of my email and discovered AI assistant was turned on and it summarized my email. I've been creating these same videos on every song so I don't know what made the one on "Precipice" "fancy" - lol!
[avatar]
You're back! Glad that you took "They Haunt Me Now", Jerry. Always happy when you visit. Next time I'll have coffee and cookies ready.
[avatar]
:) Thanks, Jerry! I wrote another piano & voice-only song last night. Tweaking lyrics and vocal melody today...I'll post it soon! Have a wonderful day. I appreciate the comment.
[avatar]
Jerry, I'm glad you listened to Winds of Indifference and got to hear how incredibly emotive Amanda's vocal is. I was delighted when she agreed to add M+V to my lyrics. She perfectly captured the vibe I had in mind, and I couldn't be happier with the result. Thank you for letting us know you enjoyed it.
[avatar]
Hi Jerry! Thank you for your comments. Dark country or southern gothic or sometimes dark americana is a pretty vague sub genre of country. Usually defined by minor keys darker lyrics material about mental troubles, crimes etc. Heartbreak is a pretty common topic in country music so I guess you would have to send it into overdrive to be considered dark country. But the rules are very loose it is not super well defined. Here is a youtube playlist which features all the major players if you are interested :) https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjnKtARnH-LAD4KhXK4ctXss7xtXIjE4A&si=fBLmWna71XLN70aw
[avatar]
Jerry, well done on "Staring at My Shoes". It's gorgeous.
[avatar]
Hey Jerry! Thanks for being present for "This Present", my friend.
[avatar]
LMAO at the new Shanty Mantra Bossa Nova genre! Thanks for stopping by to listen and comment! Gwyn is a true master craftsman!
[avatar]
I needed deep rest dear friend!! I'll catch up with you, too!
[avatar]
Hi, Jerry, Glad you enjoyed @sheslin's my collab on A Man I Don't Know. Sorry you heard a glitch at :57. I just replayed it (for the 100th time! 😀) and I didn't hear a glitch, so I hope it was a one-off. Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment. I see you've uploaded a bunch more songs since my last visit to your page! Gotta go listen!
[avatar]
Thanks for the kind comment on Full of Yourself! Yep, I double tracked the guitar and panned L/R for that stereo effect.
[avatar]
i didnt tell david that the original idea was for a bond theme. he encouraged me to write some liner notes, so if he has read them, he is only finding out now. but i agree with you. the bond themes have changed with the times,a nd this would be perfect for the next one, especially since bond died in the last one.
[avatar]
I think they are just nonsense words that sound good bit better and more distinct than the oohs and ahhs. You just play the chords and the software does the rest. Like magic. Works very well on this track though.
[avatar]
@sbs
Wow! Two from you today! Making me feel special - lol!
[avatar]
Thanks for the kind words on Lightning, Thunder! @danieldeshon nailed it!
[avatar]
@jerrypettit thanks so much for your kind comments on our collab, they're much appreciated.
[avatar]
Hello again, Jerry. Thank you for the visit on "Ignorance is Bliss" It was fun to research those things that can kill one and creating a song around that hook. Yes. AI at this stage of my lyric writing is a God send in my opinion. I can now create decent demos of my songs in a way that I could not before. Thank you again for stopping by.
[avatar]
Thanks for your feedback on Lightning, Thunder! I'm looking forward to listening to ll your tunes and leaving my notes. Would you consider listening to my song “Mel”? I’d love for you to hear it!
[avatar]
Thanks for the kindness of commenting on "Turn up the Kindness", Jerry. I appreciate the listen!
[avatar]
Much obliged, Jerry. Thanks for dropping by.
[avatar]
Thanks for listening to our collaboration. It is always a pleasure to collab with John.
[avatar]
haha! Thank you so much Jerry & Mary Catherine! Ugh, it was so out of my comfort zone, so I really struggled with getting what I wanted from my head into the DAW. I chalk these up to growing pains & learning experiences, so the fact that you found some enjoyment in my vision makes me so happy :) I would have totally added the weasel line! I could have put that in verse 1 about scoundrels & forgiving their cute little whiskered faces. LOL.
[avatar]
Thanks for calling out your favorite line in Love Isn't Any Fun. I'm glad you liked it. It sure is fun working with @gwynjones. He seems to read my mind...which can be a scary place! 😀 Glad you enjoyed our song.
[avatar]
Hi Jerry - Thank you for your feedback re my first song "Different Kind of Peace".

I can hear the music in my head and how I want it to go, but as you know, Feb gets busy, so I'll do the music in March/April as it brews in my mind.
[avatar]
Glad you found "King of an Empty Castle", Jerry. It was a pleasure to team up with Celine Ellis on this one because I've always admired her songs and her writing skills.
[avatar]
Thanks a ton for your kind words on “uke without a rhyme”! Many Blessings!
[avatar]
Thanks Jerry! I’m enjoying the output of this style of song! :)
[avatar]
@sbs
Thanks, Jerry! I was afraid I’d scared everybody away. 🤭
[avatar]
Thank you for your kind words. The song was written during the ongoing shooting. It was a way to handle the feelings (i grew up in a village close to Örebro so it felt so close)
[avatar]
Hey, Jerry! Thanks for checking out "Christmas has gone", my post-Christmas Christmas co-write.
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment on "If Wishes Were Poolboys." I love writing titles and I did wonder if anyone would click on it because of that. ;)
[avatar]
Thanks so much for checking out “Seventeen Again “! You are right! @greengrassgirl has got it going on! Such a fun tune! I am now following! I will be checking out your songs! Blessings!
[avatar]
Thanks for taking a chance on "Omnishambles", Jerry. It was a challenge to get all the words to fit in their proper places.
[avatar]
Thanks so much for the feedback, Jerry. Rock on!!
[avatar]
Hi, Jerry! So glad you're back again. Thanks for checking out "Seventeen Again," my first collab with @markfulwider. You and I both think he did a great job with the vocal. Just right!
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment on "Time To Go" -- sorry for the Google drive link; just had to do a quick acapella voice recording to get the melody down for posterity. :)

Happy FAWM!
[avatar]
Hi Jerry!! Go ahead and comment--I made it public. I plan on working on it this weekend.
[avatar]
Jerry, thanks for the nice note on my profile...made me smile! I am getting better and I thank you from my heart for the kind words :)
[avatar]
Glad to see the success on spotify. Problem with that bunch of crooks is that we're stuck with them if seeking an audience...
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment on "Aware". Happy you enjoyed my song :)
You don't hear latency issues because I heavily quantised the MIDI and re-programmed some parts of it. It's been impossible for me to record while playing along, but I think I can't fix that issue during FAWM... It's definitely not an issue of RAM and CPU, I have plenty.
I'm sorry to hear you're struggling with your computer. Good luck!
[avatar]
@sbs
I like your M-F approach - I’m just not that disciplined - lol! Btw, when I cancelled my account last FAWM and created a new one when I came back for 50/90, not only did I have to suffer being a “Fawmling” for the entire 50/90 but apparently for FAWM, too. So there was only one name change.
[avatar]
It was bills music as well Jerry
[avatar]
Thank you, Jerry! I feel seen :) Arrangements, structure, production, and still keeping it "me" when I do reach out for help are all my goals right now in my personal songwriting journey. I really appreciate your feedback.
[avatar]
@sbs
Hey, Jerry! Curious if you’ll be posting on the first day of FAWM since it’s a Saturday (filled with Skirmishes) or wait until Monday. I haven’t decided yet…
[avatar]
I'll be one of your happy listeners, as usual, Jerry. Crank out some tunes and have a grand time.
[avatar]
Hey Jerry! Happy FAWMing! Looking forward to hearing what you come up with this time around. I generally agree with your post re: AI but I didn't say so on that thread because I'm trying to mostly avoid the forums this time around. Plus I didn't want those torches and pitchforks aimed at me! :D
[avatar]
Hi Jerry,
Good to see you on here. Have a great FAWM.
Great comments on the noAI thread by the way. I'm probably going to reserve using it for 50 90 but it's a great tool for lyricists especially. I think it eventually will be a way to pass a demo to real songwriters to give them an 'idea' of how the song could sound - much better than instances where musicians have asked if I could do a rough sung melody! But it also is a good way to work on drafts of lyrics. You put your 1st draft it and hearing it with music helps you spot bits that aren't great or gives ideas for things to add
[avatar]
Hi Jerry! I just wanted to drop a note to say that I agree with you that AI, although it can definitely be destructive and raises a host of real issues and problems, also can be a useful songwriting tool and that, even if one chooses not to use it (which is an entirely valid choice!), I also don't understand the extreme hate that a lot of people seem to express. Thanks for writing such an articulate post!

(I would have posted in the forum thread you were writing in rather than here, but the original thread poster has asked everyone not to derail their thread by starting a debate, so out of respect for that request I decided to just post here.)
[avatar]
Happy FAWM, Jerry!! I always appreciate your encouraging words. It's a joy to listen to your work. Have a productive and creative month :)
[avatar]
You are certainly one to watch Jerry , I'm looking forward to hearing your songs this year, have a good one!!!
