WHY IS LIFE SO HARD?

Outside my bedroom window,
where the shadows dance and play,
I see faces worn and weary,
living day by day.
Children crying out for mercy,
in a world that’s gone astray,
Why is life so hard,
why does hope seem far away?

I see a world of steel and sorrow,
rivers filled with pain,
The air is thick with toxins,
from the factories and the trains.
Mother Earth is bleeding,
but her cries are all in vain,
Why is life so hard,
when will we break these chains?

[Chorus]
Oh, why is life so hard?
When did we lose our way?
Can we in the darkest night,
Ever find the light of day.
Can we rise and stand together,
For justice and for grace,
Why is life so hard?
Let’s change this time and place.

Can you hear the echoes,
of a world that’s crying out?
Can you see the vision,
of what this life’s about?
Let's march with hearts unbroken,
let's sing with voices proud,
Together let's find answers,
in this mighty crowd.

[Chorus]
Oh, why is life so hard?
When did we lose our way?
Can we in the darkest night,
Ever find the light of day.
Can we rise and stand together,
For justice and for grace,
Why is life so hard?
Let’s change this time and place.

Your vocal has a compassionate tone in this that is very reassuring. The lines are filled with hope and inspires us to go forth in a positive direction. I enjoyed all the vivid details. For 3 1/2 minutes I feel like I was swaying back and forth on a swing looking up at the sky…Lovely singing and playing. Very nice.

The title drew me in. Just had to click on it, so that's a good indicator right there. I can sure relate to the story here. I think we all have these feelings when we see how difficult life can be sometimes. My favorite part is: Can you hear the echoes/of a world that's crying out? I don't think I've ever heard it put that way before, so it was a pearl. Nice work.

THe sad message of our times. It has been said many ways, Pave parking lots, make tree museums, carbon footprints, the countdown clock is nearing midnight. There are not enough Greta Thunbergs.

This is so good love everything about this song. The introduction of the B3 was a fantastic surprise. This should be on the radio right now!

Really digging those guitar breaks. Great chorus, lyrics, vocals, and backing track. Love it!

Killer chorus, as we have come to expect from you man! Love the panned acoustics, and the organ that comes in halfway. Also how your arrangement builds through the song.

One of my favourites of yours, Jerry...a song for These Times indeed!
Lyrically, musically and vocally inspiring...

Nice gentle delivery of a call to arms! We must remember not to sit quietly whatever it is we internally rage about! Very well done Jerry!

a stirring anthem for our time. my favorite part of it is you tell people to get off their butts and start marching. the beauty of the music softens the dystopian message, as for your singing,,,well, youve heard of the pied piper im sure.

Well then, these lyrics are just right where I’m at and you’ve written them beautifully. The song is so perfectly paced to allow the meaning to resonate. I really enjoyed this song! Of course great performances and melody. Very well done!

An unanswerable question IMO. I like everything about this song. The singers thoughts come out, he has some hope (?) but sadly life is hard because we make it hard by the choices we make. Will we see what we need to do as a whole? I hope so but honestly cannot see it in what remains of my life time. Great Job!

@sbs
The opening guitar riff is so cool! And then the "doo doo dit duh" thingie sounds like the opening to "Mrs. Robinson." And the strong vocals with attitude are such a nice change-up this year, Jerry.
