Here we are - 5090 in the summer of 2024. This will be my fourth round of FAWM/5090. This year, I'm not aiming for a specific number of songs. We've booked some family cottage time in July and a couple of weeks abroad in September, so aiming for quantities of songs won't be practical.

I'm slowest at lyrics, so I'm open to collaborating with someone with strengths in that department. I've been lucky in past sessions to accelerate my output by finding inspiring lyrics from other participants. I'm looking forward to continuing past relationships and finding new partners to provide music for. If you're a lyricist and I haven't found you, don't be afraid to reach out. If your words can capture my imagination, there may be a song coming out of it.

Best wishes to all participants. Have a great 5090! Let's make some music!

Paul, I added more to the song when recording it. And I went back to it to add what I did.
[avatar]
I just finished this one: https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/298675
I wrote it 7 weeks ago. I used my younger voice on this one.
[avatar]
Thanks, Paul, Take a look at version 2 and let me know what you think.
[avatar]
Hi Paul I finished this for one of the challenges. In the Stillness of This Moment. let me know what you think.
[avatar]
Thank you, Paul, your points were valid and made sense to me.
[avatar]
Thank you for the advice, I plan on redoing it. It's a quick demo for the meeting I had tonight. I had 40 minutes to have the demo done. I forgot lines and order, but it was a demo. I'll let you know when the new one is done: Update, new version is done, and I've taken your advice thank you.
[avatar]
Thanks for your nice comment on my Rabbit Hole song. Also, thanks for the lyric suggestion, makes perfect sense, I’ll change it.
[avatar]
Hey Paul, if it's okay with Cindy that you can do your own version of "Her Face" then it's okay with me!

Thank you, Paul for your comment on my collaboration with Craig. It is amazing to hear his vocals and gorgeous vision for the song. I'm really sorry for the losses he had. Thank you for liking my music. I actually composed it to a skirmish prompt https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/301036
and I was surprised how without hearing my music, AI could come up with the lyrics, after our chat and some tries and errors. If I didn't know it was AI, I would have thought it was a human. The lyrics resonate with me, and I understand with Craig too. Different people have different ideas about using or not using AI. Personally I prefer collaborating with humans, but some instrumentals are aching for lyrics so AI help was very welcome ;) Still, I don't use AI vocals or music creating, just sometimes try to find some interesting titles with AI help, I can get unlimited amount of offers without AI saying to me "Come on, didn't you have enough for now?????!" Sometimes I have 15 or more titles and I come up with my own because the conversation sparked the ideas which I actually didn't have before.

Hi Paul, "My Heart Is Burning" was fun to play and I needed to dig into the song for a distraction of the loss that we had. And I wrote the music in the middle of going through the aftermath of the house clean-up and helping a friend go through this. So it was a good relief. The guitar and voice are me, but the drums are Band in the Box. Overall, we are getting good reviews from our piers. So I guess I did well. Now to try to get it on Spotify. Thank you.
[avatar]
Thanks for listening to an assortment of my songs. FYI: I once had a friend who claimed that he was the only normal person around. My position is that being “normal” means not being what is superficially thought of being normal. We have all our quirks and we should enjoy them. I have no real single musical home and have had a journey between different genres during the years so I like experimenting. Fawm+50/90 is a good place for experiments.
[avatar]
thanks for your comment on "ghosts don't hide" working with gm7 is always inspiring and seamless
[avatar]
Hi, Paul, Looks like you started something by being the first to musicate "Sing A Song of Love and Loss." Thank you again for getting the ball rolling at the very beginning, and cheering on this latest version by @songwritingzen and the versions by other musicians, too. You have been a real supporter, and I thank you. It sure is a fun experience for me to see how different musicians handle the same lyrics.
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment on "Too Pure" -- and now I'm listening to the song you mentioned: it's cute!
[avatar]
Thank you Paul, I greatly appreciate your comments.
[avatar]
Glad you liked my cross cultural "Slipping out of this World"
Do you know any way to upload images to the site. I'd like to upload a photo of the mug that inspired the song.
[avatar]
Thank you Paul for your beautiful and inspiring comment on my collaboration with Kristi and Christopher.
[avatar]
Hi Paul, I just finished "Timeless Echoes " last night. I think you will like this one since it is a ballad. I performed the song and used Band in the Box to create the music. Let me know if you like it or any comments, please.
[avatar]
Hi Paul, I don’t want to be greedy but since you offered to take on the Steeplechase, I would be absolutely delighted if you are so inclined! Thank you!
[avatar]
Thank you, Paul. The song Lavender Linger was for a challenge, I just finished tonight. I wanted something simple that fit the challenge, I am glad you liked it.

Here is my IPI Number: 1256720847
[avatar]
Are you registered with ASCAP yet and if so what is your name used there? From your suggestion, I am now registered and uploading my music. As a producer/writer. So that way I can put your information in to get part of the proceeds.
[avatar]
Hope you enjoyed your visit to TO and the play.
[avatar]
Thank you for your kindness, Paul! Glad you liked it! :-)
[avatar]
Cool! Thanks!!!
[avatar]
Hi, Paul, You have been very supportive of the "Multi-collab" idea for Sing a Song of Love and Loss. Thanks for your comments on @lindsaymachine's version and your response to her question about the tambourine...and for your earlier comments on @cbmagic's bluesy New Orleans version. It is great fun to see the different songs that result from the same set of lyrics. Thanks!
[avatar]
Hi Paul, Jacob, my collaborator on My Heart is Burning, has been super busy with work, but he said it would be ok for others to offer their musical take on the lyrics. If you are still interested, and don't mind others may also make version, I would love to hear your vision. Thanks
[avatar]
This is an instrumental I have been working on for a while, it has been done with computer programming. I have to do it all since I am a one-man band for my film productions, at least for now. That is why I am pumping out music as fast as I am, and can. Journey Through Time will be in one of the movies that I am writing now. What do you think? It will be broken in the middle so as to be started at the beginning and later continued toward the end of the film.
Thank you for being a sounding board and great person to talk with.
Carl

Thank you Paul, "lost dreams" I still hear the mistakes I made while playing but not bad for an old guy. I love you playing and you play well too. This was a simple one.
[avatar]
Hi, this is my unedited voice, I ran it through an auto-tune so you will recognize the fluctuation. But that is to me having a lot of vibrato in my voice and it doesn't work well for that. https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/301050
[avatar]
Sure Paul, that would be great!
[avatar]
Hi Paul, thank you for your kind advice. FL studio as far as I know, doesn't have a specific timing in mind. They have several options for rendering. One is Leave the remainder, cut the remainder or wrap remainder. When I leave remainder, it adds the silence at the end which is too long, when I cut the remainder, the last note comes with the noise as it's cut straight, when I go for wrap the remainder, my music starts from the ending bit. In other words, none of the options suit my project. The only thing I can do is leave the remainder and then go on Audacity and cut some of the pausing. I suspect I might need to use the animation tool which I don't seem to be able to find, to make a fading effect at the end, but I don't always want to go for it, I just want to make the music finish and have a tiny break, not a minute or so silence at the end. Thank you though for your advice. I suppose different DAWs have different settings.
[avatar]
Hi Paul, it was a pleasure. Have a great new week.
[avatar]
Thank you Paul, I'm glad you enjoyed Patty's and my song. I'm glad I found the challenge as well.
[avatar]
Paul, And a "WOW" back to you for your praise for Cavalcade, my collab with David Taro. I was as impressed as you were with his take on these lyrics. I think he did a marvelous job, and that's a gift.
[avatar]
Paul, I just found this site that appears to be easier than what I using to change the voice. https://www.kits.ai/
[avatar]
Yes, Paul, it is ok if you wish to work on any of my music. I like your style.
Carl
[avatar]
Hi Paul, just seeing your comment on that lyric now. I sent you an email.
[avatar]
Thank you Paul, I was toying with changing it, but I will leave it like it is. But I don't know... lol such is the life we all lead. :)
[avatar]
Paul, What a great comment on Gwyn Jones’ and my collab on Bless Me, Father. It was such a fun lyric to write, and he absolutely nailed it with his enthusiastic delivery and that great rockabilly music. So glad you enjoyed it!
[avatar]
Hi Paul, I used my voice on When the Night Falls Down, but I used software to allow me to pitch it up a little. Like I said it was a little too high now for my voice. I used to have a 67-key range on the keyboard. Not anymore. :(
[avatar]
Thanks for the comment on The Empty Rooms!
[avatar]
Thank you, Paul. When the Night Falls Down was a stretch for my voice... I am getting too old for this high tone. But it was fun doing it. I will level it to the younger people or to AI. Glad you liked it.
Carl
[avatar]
A gigantic thank you, Paul, for your very kind thoughts about The Estate Sale and about Hard Whiskey, etc. So thrilled that you took the time to listen and found these pieces enjoyable.
[avatar]
Hi Paul,
Yes, I'd love it if you can work your magic with Closing Down Time!
Thanks
Simon
[avatar]
Thanks Paul for your fine, so fine, work on Build Me A Time Machine. Very textured music and I love the little sounds in the background during the chorus. Sounded like they signify the noise the time machine makes when it's fired up!
[avatar]
I enjoyed listening to one of your son’sChristmas albums -glad he featured his dad in some of the songs! I love Christmas songs and did four Christmas albums with Val Cox (me lyrics, Val music & performance)

https://valeriecox.bandcamp.com/album/the-christmas-spirit

https://valeriecox.bandcamp.com/album/a-perfect-season

https://valeriecox.bandcamp.com/album/wondrous-christmas

https://valeriecox.bandcamp.com/album/warm-in-winter

And a one with Marthie.. (@marthie)

https://www.soundclick.com/womanonfiremarthie

But it has been awhile since I’d written a new Christmas song!
[avatar]
I would love that, Paul! Thanks!!!
[avatar]
Thank you Paul for your nice comments. Glad you like the collaboration that I was able to do with Liz.
[avatar]
Hi Paul,
Thanks for your comments on my Time Machine lyrics. I'd love to hear your music whether it's in my past, present, or future. Think I'm all confused now as to which time zone I'm in!
[avatar]
Thanks for your kind words, Paul. Sure, I'd love to hear what you come up with for Lost on Purpose.
[avatar]
Thank you Paul for sharing your photographer experience and for your kind comment on Faded Photographs. I appreciate your support.
[avatar]
Slow Love Song is all yours, Paul. Looking forward to what you do with it!
[avatar]
Thanks so much for the comment on "Take On the Night" -- it was more about how it felt in my throat, but I appreciate knowing it didn't sound strained. Fake it if you can!
[avatar]
I tend to write a Pepper Fest song every year so I'm guessing it was me. Thanks for visiting my song.
[avatar]
Glad you liked Gimme Whiskey, Paul. Thanks for your comment!
[avatar]
thank you for your comments on you were never my wife. the relationships seem aborted becaue i had to sum each one up with one line. half of them alsted between 4 and 10 years, so I was not feeling i could have developed them longer. each receieved the duration they deserved, the unstated point of the song is that a wife is nothing like a girlfriend. so much as each of these girls meant to me at the time, their importance pales in the shadow of my wife. A truly mature, loving relationship is serious business, something eternal. while the romantic interludes may be more fun and exciting at the time, dont really lead to much unless they survive the romance and mature into lifetime friendships.
[avatar]
Thank you for the kind comments on "And No Good Thing Ever Really Dies"! Much appreciated! I often have half of a song or part of a melody sitting in my head, and a skirmish can kick me into high creative gear (as it did here).
[avatar]
Thank you, Paul, You did a wonderful job with "The World's Going to be just fine". I think you have a great way of writing music. I hope that you find other things you like of mine to write the music to. Would you mind sending me an MP3 of this song to my email? Please.

Try any song of mine that you wish to. Thank you
[avatar]
The "Funkmasters" EZX is a favourite of mine. It's one of Toontrack's best; I use it a LOT.
[avatar]

[avatar]
Always a pleasure to listen to your songs and collaborations. Have a wonderful weekend, Paul.
[avatar]
I look forward to your new song, Paul!
[avatar]
Thanks, Paul, I would love that! And I appreciate your understanding.
[avatar]
Thank you, Paul. Very glad you like the song. I really like it too but I'm biased! Thanks for your kind comment.
[avatar]
Oh, Paul! That would be wonderful. You are the first to volunteer for a multiple collab on Sing A Song of Love and Loss. It will be fun to hear what you come up with. Thanks!
[avatar]
Hi Paul! Sure, that'd be great to write some music for It's Our Call.
[avatar]
Here try these words.

Love Is A Simple Song

I love you and you love me
That’s the way life should be
Be kind in word and deed
I’ll serve you meet your need

Love is a simple song
Hold my hand weak or strong
In my arms you belong
Love is a simple song

Together forever man and wife
Together forever for all our life
We made a promise we shall keep
Our foundation is dug deep

Love is a simple song
Hold my hand weak or strong
In my arms you belong
Love is a simple song

Tomorrow is a mystery I know
We got a history to show
The winds of change let them blow
Hold on baby never let go

Love is a simple song
Hold my hand weak or strong
In my arms you belong
Love is a simple song
[avatar]
Why don't you give me a second title, and I'll try to keep it simpler? Or if you like look at the lyrics I've already written and try to go with one of those.
[avatar]
Paul, I’m so glad you enjoyed Gwyn Jones’ and my song, Cat In the Attic. He was wonderful to work with and he seemed to know instinctively how to present the lyrics for maximal emotional appeal. That’s quite a talent and I feel lucky to have been able to work with him.
[avatar]
sometimes we have to shift into a mode of composition and performance that is infeior to our general output. we do this in the service of the song. so your occasional off notes made the character of the betrayed lover more credible that ha you performed it perfectly. i did the same on my most recent song. mausoleum of modern art. the point of view was that of a cranky old man surrounded by the beauty of the art. had i ung it in my "good"voice, it would have done a disservice to the song. i frequently do a vocal that i blow my capabilities in order to create a more believable character. and perhaps, subconsciously maybe, you were doing the same. but what ever you did, it works. and we feel empathy for the character you and cindy have created.
[avatar]
Top notch work on my lyric-Again!! Thanks!!
[avatar]
We're teamed up again for the collaboration. Please give me a title, and I'll write some lyrics.
[avatar]
Hi Paul. You are very welcome. It was a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for your amazing support and kindness.
[avatar]
No hurry! Whenever it's calm
[avatar]
That'd be great Paul!
[avatar]
Thanks very much for your comments on on "Peter, Sew Your Shadow On" and "Puddles of Cat." I'm glad others can relate to cats in puddle formation!
[avatar]
Thanks for your kind words. You helped motivate me to write a second verse. Version two is up now.
[avatar]
Would love that, Paul.
[avatar]
Thanks for your very kind comment on My Heart is Burning. It means a lot that you find it music worthy. I will let you know when it becomes a song :)
[avatar]
posted a song but it isn’t appearing
[avatar]
What? No song today?!! [Drums fingers, waiting...]
[avatar]
Thank you for your kind commentary on "Damn You, Autocorrect!" Much appreciated :)
[avatar]
Hi Paul, re: postcard exchange - I sent you an e-mail right back. Timestamped July 8th, 8:44 CEST, GMail says it went out. Did it end up in your junk mail, maybe? Anyways, the gist was: no need to send them physically, the scans are okay for me. 😊 I'll be sending you my postcard shortly. I got one, but was stupid enough to forget buying a stamp along with it. 🤦‍♂️
[avatar]
Thank you, Paul for chiming in on "Bodily Battle".
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment. The "bad performance" note was mostly about some mangled words, unintended syncopation, and string buzzes. 😀
[avatar]
Thank you, Paul for chiming in to "If This Is" AI generated a very simple melody and vocals I can imitate. :)
[avatar]
Ditto from me, Paul. Bless you.
[avatar]
Hi, Paul, You're so flattering! Thank you for your wonderful response to Names On A Wall, my collab with @jeff9. I am very pleased with how he interpreted the lyrics, both musically and vocally. So glad you gave it a thumbs up.
[avatar]
You are very welcome, Paul. Thank you for your kind support and your beautiful songs.
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment on “It's Hard to Start a Fire in the Rain.” I appreciate the kind compliment!
[avatar]
Impressions is all yours, Paul!

Good Trouble (Dedicated To The Revolutionary Spirit Of Pete Seeger)

Listening to the folk songs of this stolen land
As politicians seek to secure total command
What a surprise the devil in disguise well I’ll be damned
I don’t miss Bob Dylan at all but where’s The Band?

We will survive climbing up from the rubble
So happy to be alive it’s good trouble
I saw two rainbows God’s promise in double
Don’t you know life itself is good trouble

Two debaters both haters searching for a clue
Crying and lying denying Jesus’s words were true
Make America great again pre fourteen ninety-two
Sacrificial love the Holy Dove men of virtue

We will survive climbing up from the rubble
So happy to be alive it’s good trouble
I saw two rainbows God’s promise in double
Don’t you know life itself is good trouble

Teach me some chords I’ll write some words trying to rhyme
A time for war a time for peace living the greatest crime
Hey broken hearted poets now is the time to make sense
Man may be fragile but I smile in confidence

We will survive climbing up from the rubble
So happy to be alive it’s good trouble
I saw two rainbows God’s promise in double
Don’t you know life itself is good trouble

No trespassing our ego is surpassing the heights of the moon
We don’t know exactly when but then again we know it’s soon
Push the red button and welcome in a nuclear holocaust
We can no longer wait we must contemplate counting the cost

By the riverside singing slightly out of tune
Even tall trees don’t offer any shade at high noon
Turn the other cheek blessed are the meek yeah love is free
You ain’t on the left if you’re against anarchy

We will survive climbing up from the rubble
So happy to be alive it’s good trouble
I saw two rainbows God’s promise in double
Don’t you know life itself is good trouble
[avatar]
I"d like to work with Good Trouble!
[avatar]
Well, let's hope it's for the better. Please give me a song title, and I'll write the lyrics. I once hitchhiked over the USA and had a Greyhound Ameripass, which allowed me to ride all I wanted. Made it from New Jersey, to Texas, to California, to Washington. The song sounds like Pete Seeger, as does Morning Coffee.
[avatar]
Go for it! Can't wait to hear it!
[avatar]
(deleted)
[avatar]
I won't say I have strength in lyrics but I have none in music composition so if you see lyrics of mine without a demo and they appeal, let me know and go for it!
[avatar]
Thank you Paul for your kind comment.
[avatar]
Hi Paul! Likewise, can’t wait to hear some new stuff from you :)
[avatar]
Thanks Paul...looking forward to hearing yours too...
[avatar]
Hey Paul! Thanks for your message! Wishing you a wonderful 50/90! I will tell Cassidy she can expect some more hits to enjoy soon! 😊
[avatar]
Have a great 50/90!
