Liner Notes

At the end of January, a prompt was posted on We Write Songs, a supportive songwriting group that I belong to. It was just a single word - invisible. At that time, I came up with verse one, and now FAWM has given the excuse and opportunity to build the song a bit further.

Please do not send me notes of sympathy based on this song. Most of my songs are works of fiction and this one definitely is.

Still needs some smoothing around the edges, but, hey, it's February.

Lyrics

I was hiding in the back row of the class photograph
Some had dozens of friends, but I had half
When teams were picked I was the last man standing
Playing left field, it was less demanding
Invisible, invisible

As years went by I became more reticent
When I needed strength, I felt spent
When the chips were down no one came to me
I was living on my own in misery
Invisible, invisible

When you disappear in people's eyes
You can only theorize
That you have to be strong to be
Invisible

So I tried one of those fancy online dating apps
I've been on it for months but its all crap
I'm swiping right but they're all swiping left
Leaving me feeling so bereft
Invisible, invisible

When you disappear in people's eyes
You can only theorize
That you have to be strong to be
Invisible

Great chorus! Your lyrics are really well written. Nice rhymes and neatly fitting ideas. And its true, you have to be strong if you're invisible. I use to use it as a superpower to sneak up on people and spook them, he he.

The way the rhythm of the third and fourth lines resolve towards the simple ‘invisible, invisible’ refrain is super. In fact the whole verse melody is really strong, glad you fleshed it out into this full song! It’s a cracker.

Agree with Jeremy the steel/slide guitar is great in this! Love the repeated refrain line. It’s a really strong write Paul. And such a blend of genres with the steel/slide, and the pop/RnB drums going on.

You have to be strong to be invisible is a great line. Love the steel/slide guitar. The bridge instrumentation is cool too!
