CAN WE START AT THE BEGINNING?

Liner Notes

Well, this one definitely challenged my vocal range--but if you can get past that it's not a bad song. I hope you enjoy!

CAN WE START AT THE BEGINNING?

Lately, we've been drifting apart
Like two ships in the night,
we've lost our spark
But baby, I remember how it
used to be
When your smile was all
I needed to see

Chorus:
Can we start at the beginning?
Go back to that magic first kiss
Rewrite our story,
give love a new meaning
Can we start at the beginning?
And find what we almost missed

Remember that corner where
we first met?
Your eyes shining bright,
I'll never forget
We danced in the moonlight,
without a care
Now I'm hoping we can find
our way back there

Chorus:
Can we start at the beginning?
Go back to that magic first kiss
Rewrite our story,
give love a new meaning
Can we start at the beginning?
And find what we almost missed

Time has taught us what
we have is rare
Through all of the storms,
our hearts still care
The road ahead might not
be crystal clear
But starting over brings
you closer, my dear

Chorus:
Can we start at the beginning?
Go back to that magic first kiss
Rewrite our story,
give love a new meaning
Can we start at the beginning?
And find what we almost missed

I know we've changed,
but our love's still true
With a little faith,
we can make it new
So take my hand, let's give it
one more try
'Cause our love's too precious
to let it die

Chorus:
Can we start at the beginning?
Go back to that magic first kiss
Rewrite our story,
give love a new meaning
Can we start at the beginning?
And find what we almost missed

Can we start at the beginning?
Just you and me, let's reminisce
Can we start at the beginning?
And seal it with a kiss

Another relationship story but this never gets old with Jerry's clever lyrics and production. Always so relatable:
'Can we start at the beginning?".........easily said but hard to do.Well done

I think almost every couple can relate to your story here. My fave line: "But starting over brings/ you closer, dear." I haven't heard that line in a song before, so it intrigued me.

You and your love stories lol. They're so good. I don't know how you do it, Jerry! But, they're so vivid and quite enjoyable. Another good one!

I like how hopeful this ultimately is; maintaining a relationship over many years is hard, but this has the optimistic feel that if both parties just want it and open themselves up emotionally, it can be magical all over again. This soars and inspires; it's an absolutely lovely, touching listen.

nice to see you trying a few different things. good lyric about stuff that's reall. you do a darn good vocal job

You write lyrics about the most commonly addressed subjects and find an original angle every time...add that to the melodies and arrangements and that's so impressive, Jerry!

Nice pace and love the music! Another fab song!

Oh the Jerry Pettit flow….you have a great sense of melody. Period. I’m always happy to hear your songs about topics that are relatable and the songs are just neat, tidy packages of hooks and perfectly balanced parts. Very well done!

@sbs
No, you cannot! I remember my ex saying, “You’ve lost your smile” when we were headed for breakup. He was a rebound guy and I shouldn’t have married him. Hindsight… your vocals are just fine - perfect for the song. Nice harmonies.

A return to innocence of sorts. My they don't make songs like this much any more these days now do they. Nice one, Jerry. Maybe we all need to go back to the beginning.

sure, you can go back to the beginning, but only in your mind. nice sentiment though, and its declaration to a loved one could lead to better days.

Its a great song Jerry, Is that autotune on your voice? If it is, I don't think you need it, your voice is great without it, I particularly enjoyed your vocals on the first song you posted on fawm. And I think that one just had light reverb on it.
