The End Of The Party

by @davidtaro

Liner Notes

Woop!! 14 years... Kind of had to do one about the UK election, apologies if any of the references don't make sense to non-UK folks.

The fact that I could only squeeze in about a third of the crazy, heinous sh*t that the Conservative Party has inflicted on the country over the last 14 years kind of speaks to my relief that they're finally out of power šŸ„³

Would have got this one up yesterday, but having pulled an all nighter to watch the results roll in, I was in no state to do anything!

Lyrics

No more grifting, no more lies
No more cruelty for you to disguise
Donā€™t want to see your face again
Sorry not sorry, itā€™s the end

No more kickbacks, no more pain
No more speeches out in the rain
You always reap what you have sown
And youā€™re the worst weā€™ve ever known

Itā€™s the end of the party
Weā€™ve all left the room
The end of the party
Canā€™t come too soon
The end of the party
The party is doomed
Would the last Tory standing
Turn out the lights, pop the balloons

No more cutbacks, no more sleaze
No more scapegoating minorities
When did you get so out of touch?
They used to love you oh so much

No more tax breaks for the one percent
No more gaslighting people you were meant to represent
When thereā€™s so little you can show
Itā€™s time to clear your desk and go go go

[Chorus]

No more chaos, no more greed
No more tanking the economy
We wonā€™t forgive, we wonā€™t forget
Before you ask, thatā€™s not a bet

No more stooges in the BBC
No more fast lane contracts for your VIPs
You know, we want that money back
Then get your things, itā€™s time to pack

[Chorus]

Itā€™s been fourteen yearsā€¦ fourteen years
Itā€™s been fourteen yearsā€¦ fourteen years
Can I get an amen and a hallelujah!
You know, weā€™ll worry about tomorrow, tomorrow
For the moment letā€™s just enjoy the end of the party

Labour should have hired you to perform at their victory party. This would have 'em rocking and singing along for sure. What a great groove, and catchy AF. Love those bvox. You've created a masterpiece of angry ebullience. Amen

Awesome vibe even without getting every reference. Super bluesy, great rhythm and your classic vocals. Terrific!

Dude this is fantastic, so full, fun and an important message. Vocals are killing it. Definitely another one to add to an album.

Don't get me started on politics--really trying to avoid doing songs on the USA situation. For me, this music is a break from being CONSUMED with how bad things are going here--and I'm SO HAPPY that things went well in the UK and France lately. Congrats!! Terrific song here, so the situation MUST have inspired you. Always great arranging and terrific vocals from you, too! ā¤ļø

Hey man, good to hear something from you and I admire your commitment to this one, somehow managed to make politics into a really cool song which I enjoyed, especially the harmonies. I don't know why but the line "we'll worry about tomorrow, tomorrow" just sticks and it will probably be a saying of mine going forward. Anyway cracking opener man!
[avatar]
Man this is an epic production. Sounds fantastic, and you can definitely tell how passionate the lyric writing was for this. That solo kicks ass. Great stuff DT!

The swinging stomp to the second half of the verse is great, and just a taster for the chorus, which is lovely. That brass - I'm not sure how you are doing that, but I'm guessing it isn't a bunch of humans with trumpets. It sounds great. The well managed rush of "the people you were meant to represent" is a really nice bit of work. That's a nice, controlled solo. Love the descending ending especially. oh and I was hoping for something like the penultimate line, and was happy to see it.
The call and response fourteen years sounds really organic and fun, if slightly ominous. Great one, can't wait to hear more. Not sure when I'm going to be able to listen to more, but hopefully in the next few days. [I'm working on a powerpop song called "Heartstrings" at the moment that keeps getting longer and longer. I'm almost at four minutes thirty at the moment, so hopefully I don't keep adding more and more bits]

Nice incorporation of that opening sample. Love when your rockinā€™ vocals come in. Great rhythm and groove to this! I was instantly bopping along, which is not always the case with political songs. I dig the bold, layered chorus.
[avatar]
Oh HELL yeah! Love the bluesy rock n roll energy right off the bat, and the glam rocky full/layered vocals on the ends of the verses and the chorus. Has some major Pink Floyd energy. Very clever, biting lyrics. WHY IS EVERYTHING ON FIRE *laughs in despair*
Anyway, great effing song.

Fabulous, David. The marriage of these lyrics and the hard-hitting music is perfection. The instrument layering (and playing) is delicious and the song construction works to keep the energy alive throughout the whole piece. Love the intense emotion in the vocal that celebrates the defeat of a despised and unworthy opponent with one last blast of crushing condemnation. Truly an anthem for the times in your corner of the world.

So nice to hear you belting out a new tune! Yeah go DT! Very apt and timely to do an election song. Fingers crossed everything you sang comes true! Clever title - when I clicked on it I thought it was about an actual party. Double meaning genius!! Well done

Every year, you post and the last line of Piano Man rings through my ears. You should be a national treasure.

Canada, as usual, seems like itā€™s going to repeat the lesson other parts of the world seemed to have learnedā€¦ well, maybe not the U.S.

Big impassioned vocal. Your joy is palpable, Like the villagers' pitchfork send off at the end of a gothic horror movie. :)
Thanks for the kind words earlier and for taking an extra minute to cut/paste to youtube. Much appreciated.

love this. the song kicks ass and iā€™m happy your election went the way it did. not only so you could write this song, but also for humanity. but also for the song. iā€™m hoping i wonā€™t have to write the opposite kind of song when the US has our election :-/

Oh, my! Politics are crazy everywhere, and it's great to see some sanity on the horizon! Your message and music and that DT Production really make this shine! There's hope ahead! Great song!
[avatar]
Sunak and Starmer, two cheeks of the same arse. I hope you are not too disappointed when it all blows up.

Great track as per usual but all these fuckers hate us.
[avatar]
What a fantastic production! Great lyrics and guitar solo! Very smart wordplay on the title, well done!
[avatar]
Well done David! You sum up what we're all (well most of us) are feeling, It's still sinking in because it takes a while to realise that yes...it's over and we can breathe a little easier and let the rump of Tories that remain (hah!) just drag each other further into the mire because now they're an irrelevance...at long last!
Btw...stonkingly good track too...šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘
[avatar]
Omg this is fantastic! Made the hairs on my arm stand up, lyrics are spot on and this should get airplay as others have said. I shall be playing this a lot. Bravo!
[avatar]
Amazing. I hope this gets some airplay in the UK. Great vibe and production and so much in here that those of us on this side of the Pond can also relate to.
[avatar]
Wow, this is just sensational! Very much agree with the political sentiment but, beyond that, the music , lyrics and vocals are all outstanding. You should post this on X and tag Carol Vorderman and you might get it going viral
[avatar]
This is a real party piece, both musically and politically. Powerful song, well produced and strongly performed. Yahoo!
[avatar]
Great! What a production! And amen to the message. Fantastic lyrics. Nice guitar solo also.

This song is so on point and current like you can do with easy Mr Taro..dare I call you David!...lolšŸ˜‰
Tasty wah guitar, guitar solo and another killer chorus. tons of great lines... i love this one "No more stooges in the BBC" .
[avatar]
I was staying off this topic in Thursday in case of tempting fate... thank goodness it's over. But as you say at the end, we'll still need to worry about tomorrow! Joy and fury and passion all at once here. Great stuff.
[avatar]
i will take any song thats about kicking our tories and especially a Taro one . you get a hallelujah here on both counts! great overtones musically and undertones lyrically! top stuff David
[avatar]
I love that bass and drum groove and your vocals are great (as usual.) I'm glad your team won.
[avatar]
you put the celebratory fury of all england into your vocals. im happy to see the end of the tories and wish the best for england with the labor party, you hit so many targets in your lyrics that i felt i was in a shooting gallery. keep that party going in celebration of the end of their party,
[avatar]
My first thought was - yay for the UK! My second thought was - I really hope I can write a song like this in November šŸ˜Ø I love how you made the first 2 lines of the verses sort of the opposite of a grocery list of the failings of the Tory party, followed by 2 lines of zingers, all delivered with the right amount of vitriol and a "ding dong the witch is gone" kind of attitude. The tasty, funky bluesy package you deliver this song in is just total ear candy and it feels like a celebration. I LOVED how you used the word "party" and totally leaned into it - songwriting gold! The section starting at 4:06 with the trumpets repeating the 4 descending notes is perfect under your ending - which is so cool. A big congrats to you on the political victory and on creating such an awesome song!
[avatar]
Wow, well done! The music and vocals are so right on and the lyrics are stellar!
That lead guitar part blew me away.
[avatar]
Sweet samples beautiful music bed and your vox sound soooo good. Performance wise and recording wise. Super big. Iā€™m politically agnostic but the general political arena worldwide shared much of the same nuanceā€¦I assume the ā€œbadā€ and ā€œcorruptā€ is universal varying mostly in size and amount. Epic epic epic. This song made me go from 6 to midnightā€¦ya feel me?

@sbs
Not political, but I can still appreciate the passion you pour into your music. You could sing nonsense and it would still sound awesome!
