Liner Notes

@kristian : my head hurts and its way past my bedtime... I shall write more tomorrow after some sleep

@oddbod : The plan (well mine at least) was for a 3rd verse and to record the vocals properly but patience is an alien concept to Kristian, he’s like a runaway train when you send him something 🤣

@kristian : Time is a construct and I was scared you would ruin it by singing more 😛 I think you should rather focus on the timing of the vocals and how they are not wrong 😂

@oddbod: I've edited the title to what it should've been - not the one Kristian randomly drew out of a hat 😐
I've also included the lyrics to the 3rd verse which Kristian in his haste to post the song decided wasn't necessary and so cut and pasted the second verse 🙄
But I'm not going to worry about it, honest. It's perfectly okay 😬

@kristian: when you add a song with a collaborator, the site asks «are you sure you are OK with the other person before posting this song?». This is an annoying popup that you have to click «go away vile window» in ordrer to post a song.

Update 18.feb:
@kristian: So after Tim FINALLY got around to sending the correct lyrics, I updated this. Added some bits and bops that he complained about that NOBODY will ever notice; I reckon he can now pet himself on the back for a job well done... and in a years time, all of this will be forgotten and we (yes, WE) will probably muck up our next collab :D until then; ONWARDS!

Lyrics

Every day is like the one just gone
Radio’s playing the same old song
So tired of waiting for something to come
When there’s nothing new under the sun, no
How’s that make you feel?
How’s that make you feel?

Tell yourself that’s the final straw
But still you take a little bit more
Your ducks aren’t ever quite in a row
For the moment to let go, no
How’s that make you feel?
How’s that make you feel?

You’re no longer sixteen
You can’t keep dreaming

Acting wild only got you so far
Stealing cigarettes and your daddy’s car
Put the window down on the blacktop
Keep on driving and don’t stop, no
Hands on the wheel
Both hands on the wheel

You’re no longer sixteen
Its time to stop dreaming

Damn, this is so wonderful. Love everything that @oddbod complained about and everything that @kristian complained about.

I'm now hoping that Kristian can make our collab sound half this good.

Feels like @oddbod is channeling more Springsteen than Bowie to me! Obviously musically I'm not getting that, I'm getting more of an A-ha vibe. I was enjoying all of this, but I really enjoyed the chorus especially; the uplift in the synths and the multi-vocals are really cool. I reckon I could have taken a bridge and another chorus!

I’m enjoying the old couple bickering as much as the song, it’s a perfect partnership, clearly!
Sublime mix of synth sounds here, so quintessentially 80s and I’m here for it. Have you heard of Donny Benèt? Reckon it’d be right up your alley.
The vocoder is a nice little touch.
Many moments to like in this. Channeling a bit of Bowie in this one perhaps @oddbod?

Unbecoming of age. I love it. This is the soundtrack to a montage of a pimply teenager hitting the gym, and we see flashbacks to bad dates and the car from the third (unsung) verse while we are subjected to rapid cuts of different exercises and then finally, the pimples are gone and our hero is now driving a mini van and has gray hair.

Wonderful driving rhythm, catchy synths, and a great vocal performance from Tim!

Love this synthy awesomeness. It is catchy and love those double claps.
It sounds really modern and yet 80s.
Those ‘no longer 16’ bits are off the chart catchy.
A great collab. Well done!!

This is so laid back and nice, I want to drive around LA or Miami in a convertible listening to this. I really lie that 3rd verse too, glad you posted the lyrics or I would have to project my own. The synths all sound great here, the hook and the bass line, it works together so well!

I'm listening on a laptop and really not doing justice to the production, which sounds excellent even on a laptop. The song rides along nicely the chorus is lush, vocal delivery is cool, really good collab.

Glorious 80s pop with all the trimmings (though the verse vocals lean a bit 80s rock maybe). Top work, you two. I'll be checking back in at the end of FAWM to see if the liner notes have become a novel.

Lol at liner notes!
Ooh it feels effortlessly cool! But I’m sure it must’ve took lots of effort?! It’s SO shiny and beautiful!
What a freakin’ awesome throwback you guys!

Such a groove! Not sure which I love more, that repeating riff on the verses or the backing vocals on the chorus.
[avatar]
This is like road opening up in front.... a new day (even if it's a lot like the one just gone...) a beautiful day. Every day is beautiful... especially with background vocals like these, keyboard hooks galore.

There wasn't much I loved about 80s music but you two might make me rethink my position. This is a great listen with a perfect pop melody and grand production. Superb collab! I enjoyed your "banter" in the liner notes, too.

The hit factory is still churning out classics I see! Wonderfully warm 80s synths and a great vocal. I particularly love that vocoder answer line. Great collab!
[avatar]
That's a delicious chorus! Those verses sound familiar but don't recall which 80s song. Regardless this is a cool retro 80s tune and Tim your voice fits like a glove.
[avatar]
Loving the 80s vibe to this. It feels like it could be the end credits to a John Hughes film! Turns out you can copy and paste a verse if your verses are as catchy as choruses!

First off - one of my favourite things in FAWM is listening to your annual collabs. Your song always sound different but they are well produced. This time you got some 80s synth going on with super catchy melodies. This is groovy!
[avatar]
Everything groovy, all the way up to the 'dream' and 'in' going back and forth left to right at the end.
[avatar]
Catchy bops born (and borne) out of struggle. It’s almost there. Keep arguing. It will improve. Everything about this cool effort screams “Hook”! But there isn’t one. . . yet?
[avatar]
These are two tastes I hadn't considered putting together, but am taken aback by how complementary they are - like Tabasco sauce and Cookies'n'Cream ice cream. I think the music is the ice cream and the lyrics/vocals are the sauce.

What is especially interesting is that the lyrical dissonance slowly grows over the course of the song until we go from standard-issue ennui to car theft, drug use and running away - but there is such synergy with the music that one barely notices - and when one does, it's hard to imagine any other possible fit.

I just like the backing track in general - the little synthy riffs and spikes are a world of fun. And anytime Oddbod oohs and aahs is the right time. Tick tock, Oddbod o'clock.

So catchy! Love those synths and production.

I needed some synth pop in my life today. This is so tight and catchy and satisfying. And not to ignore the excellent mix job: the vocal is riding low in the mix (really unusual in the home studio world) but every syllable is perfectly intelligible. That's some pro work there.
[avatar]
sounds like an unearthed warren zevon song. i like the high eighties arrangement and in the production, the drum sound stands out.
[avatar]
Oh yes guys how ridiculously catchy , although it has a real 80s vibe the delivery and production brings it right up to date. My utter fav part is the verse riff, which i find myself continually waiting on. Love the chord movement of the chorus by the way. TOP TOP COLLAB
[avatar]
Wait... what?
Where did this missing Talking Heads song come from?
Dreamteam indeed.
This is a masterwork.
[avatar]
This is so nice - I was really enjoying the 80s feel to the verses - lovely vocal melodies, solid bass, cracking drums. Then it hits that chorus and the whole thing goes up another level. The chorus BVs are sublime. This is great.
[avatar]
This has kind of a "if Bob Dylan embraced synth music in the 80s" feel to it. I mean that as a compliment; I don't think Bob Dylan would sound this good if he had embraced synth music in the 80s. Really great sounds in here and I love the driving drumbeat.
[avatar]
Dream team alert! This is seriously boppable and sooo catchy. Takes me right back in time to the 80s. So good, you two! Well done!
[avatar]
Nice collab y'all! Sounds awesome and it's a bop.
[avatar]
So listenable! No smart comment! It’s just a darn good song! Would be on my play list
