Liner Notes

When I saw these lyrics by @pepper I just knew they needed some sparkly synthpop. I could so relate to the feeling of being at a dance and just wanting to go home. Anyway, this was fun! I hope I did her lyrics justice.

Lyrics

the light is just too loud
the music's just too bright
why'd i have to be burdened with
the horrid gift of sight?
i'll hide out in the bathroom
fix my dress and practice words
i'm just your paper cut-out girl
always seen and never heard

chill in the air
glare of streetlights
exchange a glance, but there's no chance
i'm going home with you tonight
no, i won't go home with you tonight

i'll find some shelter in
the blackout curtains of my eyelids
dancing with you
is giving me night blindness
i'll do what i have to
but i'm just going through the motions
to the bitter end, i'll play your game
even though i know i won't win

the music's just too bright
the light is just too loud
time goes on, another song
and i'm losing your face in the crowd
push through the sea of bodies
i'm swimming through the floor
a flaking flower on my wrist
and i can't stop eyeing the door

chill in the air
glare of streetlights
exchange a glance, but there's no chance
i'm going home with you tonight
no, i won't go home with you tonight

i'll find some shelter in
the blackout curtains of my eyelids
dancing with you
is giving me night blindness
i'll do what i have to
but i'm just going through the motions
to the bitter end, i'll play your game
even though i know i won't win

find a confession on the edges
if you haven't seen it
then i haven't said it (haven't said it)
find a confession on the edges
if you haven't seen it
then i haven't meant it (haven't mean it)

i'll find some shelter in
the blackout curtains of my eyelids
dancing with you
is giving me night blindness
i'll do what i have to
but i'm just going through the motions
to the bitter end, i'll play your game
even though i know i won't win
i'll find some shelter in
the blackout curtains of my eyelids
dancing with you
is giving me night blindness

Another great song for Robyn! I'm amazed at how you can get this great synthpoppy sound out. So impressive.

Even though I have no direct experience of this world, the message is effectively delivered. Great vocals and backing track.

yeah, nice synthpop vibes for sure. being neither a "looker" nor a frequenter of discotheques i don't have a lot of basis for relating to the words, but to the extent that i do, the pairing of music to lyrics feels pretty apt. nice team up!

Great electro pop and a superb collab write. This song wouldn’t be out of place in an Erasure set. It’s got that 80s catchiness and pulsing fancy rhythm.

Fabulous 80s pop all the way. Great lyrics and super-catchy.
Wonderful bridge too. Perfect pop!

Love this line: dancing with you is giving me night blindness. Amazing. This is really well done. Electro/sparkle pop is definitely the move. The vocal harmonies are stellar. And that minor shift on the word "know" is a great surprise. I also love the ad libs at the end. I love ad libs at the end. Fun track!

Ah, this is tasty. Nightmare scenario set to bubbly synth pop. The contradiction is delightful. Very 80s.

Relatable lyrics for the 20-something’s. And if things point in that direction, the 30-something’s. lol. Great backing track too! I really enjoyed this! So good.

You definitely managed this 80s synthpop sound (I struggled so much with that last week!). And I think it's a good combination with the lyrics. Sounds very cool.

This sounds soooooo good. Has a nice 80s/synthwave type feel to it.

How did I not know you could do "synthpop"?!! Great set of lyrics and Robyn's music (and vocals) are always amazing. This one is no exception. Terrific collaboration! ❤️

"i'll find some shelter in
the blackout curtains of my eyelids"
(and you thought she was closing her eyes because you were so dreamy)
that is one of the best lines i have ever heard in a dance song. and its only one of many here, and when robyn sings it, she means it!
this song is so expertly put together. i especially liked the echoed reappearance of lines in the final verse.
and its so hooky, it seems to have two separate choruses.
cant express how much i love this song, fro the perfection of the arrangement to the unique yet universal theme (hasnt everyone been through this at least once?) to the robyns powerfil, expressive vocals.....im in pop music heaven.

Oh yeah you’ve got that synth pop down tee a bit classy human league! Really nice lyric and a real bopable! I was chair dancing!

I'm so glad that all that is far far behind me. But the memory stays and a lyric and song like this brings it back> well done both of you. Now I'll slink back between my own blackout curtains (what a great metaphor!)

Sounds good, Robyn! Good lyrics, too
