Max In The Hat

Liner Notes

A quick Mellotron ensemble before work to keep me ticking over.

Recently we were shown a picture my youngest (4 at the time) had drawn at school of his family. Most people you'd expect were present; mummy, daddy, his brother etc. But wait, who's this mysterious figure here? Max in the hat came the reply. Amusing and utterly sinister in equal measure.

I wondered if you’d been inspired by our conversation about Thomas the Tank Engine and how weird the theme is. Because, honestly, kids are very weird and their media doesn’t reflect that enough. Except Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures i suppose. Such strange adventures you took in only 74 seconds. Wonderfully deranged. You should put the drawing of max in the liners.

New horror franchise idea in Max in the hat, although potentially just a ripoff of the babadook. This is really nice, while also being slightly sinister which I guess is fitting.

This is sweet. A Mellotron! I barely know what that is, but it sounds great, along with the other instruments ... are they Mellotron too? Anyway, the piano, then drums, then key shifts, the swaying exit - so good.

Get Max In The Hat a show, put it in a primetime CBBC mid-nighties slot, and watch the money flow in.

A mysterious fellow to be sure this Max! I must say though, it sounds like he’s up to mischief rather than murder so I feel somewhat better about the whole scenario now 😁Cute ditty!

Hahahaha, "Max in the hat"! Great idea to build a tune from. The tune sounds like Max in the hat is a somewhat welcome presence, albeit a tad confusing.

Oh I love the backstory and your song is so charming and whimsical! Fabulous playing on those keys! Wow, nice one!

Really charming retro fun! Definitely feels like something that would turn up in a slightly sinister kids TV show circa 1974. Love the lo-fi warmth and the way that the melodies weave around each other.

If I had to imagine a theme song for Max in the Hat, this would be EXACTLY it. There is a slight Lynchian quality to it. And by slight, mean massive.
