War Cry

Liner Notes

Demo Written, Performed, & Produced in Logic by Kate E. Stanton 2/1/2025

First Song!! Spent several hours working on this today--my ears are fried, so I will need to polish in production with a proper vocal mix, etc. I hope it gets my ideas across :) Thank you for listening & Happy FAWM!

My sister texted me the "warrior quiet country mouse with a medieval weapon" sketch for me when I sent her my lyric. Made my day!!

Lyrics

War Cry

You know it takes all kinds
this country mouse
in the big city's blinding lights
now she's off the wheel
her rat race is done, she won
to the rhythm of her own heart drum 🥁

& it goes
ahhhhhh

She's done with the chase
shadows left behind
let them integrate cuz she is on her own time
as the city fades, it can get cumbersome
fighting dreams, she won
to the rhythm of her own war drum 🥁

& it goes
ahhhhhh

Her war cry---ahhhhhh

Oooh I see why you want to revisit this. I can imagine what it will sound like finished, and I'm excited to hear it! I for sure wanted to hear more of that last war cry. Like an atmospheric chant or something. You're killing it this year!

WOW Kate! This is so beautiful and unique! I just love the melody and music so much! Your vocals are spectacular. Such a touching and powerful story you tell in your lyrics! I love, Love, LOVE this song!!!
[avatar]
This is awesome, Kate. Wonderful singing and the way you've constructed the song is captivating. It's like you've created your own genre here. Super cool!
[avatar]
Absolutely love the "country mouse / rat race" idioms being used together here. The vocalization interludes are really cool too.
[avatar]
Oh, I love this. Kate set free! You have such a musical imagination and the vocals to go anywhere. This is great!
[avatar]
The whole thing sounds terrific. Your voice is great. Love how sparse it feels while also having a propulsive beat to keep things moving along.
[avatar]
Ohhh how I love me some Kate Stanton vocals! You could sing about paper clips and I’d be hooked, but your warrior quiet country mouse with a medieval weapon has me beating out the rhythm of my own war drum. Well done!
[avatar]
Luv!!!! Love the space, groove, your amazing voice of course. Got swagger and very cool instrumentation. Interesting, sparse, great groove. Love the Ahhs!!! Keeper!!!
[avatar]
Lots of ideas are bubbling up in my ears here. Such a beautiful song! You chose great effects. It sounds great. Congratulations.
[avatar]
Lovely 90s indie vibe. Love the rhythmic vocals on the verses and that effortless soaring vocal on the chorus. Instant classic.
[avatar]
Really like the build up and variety in here, voice sounds great mixed in!
[avatar]
It sounds like this person is very strong. She had a dream and made it come true. Beautiful and powerful vocals. I can feel the story as you sing. Very nice.
[avatar]
Hi Kate, this is engaging, quite sparse, leaves you wanting more, but then again it's great as it is.
[avatar]
Beautiful vocals throughout - love the effects too. The high sparkly synth is a nice touch. Great melody and beautiful rise in the chorus - super effective at delivering your theme.
[avatar]
The chorus ahhh hook with the echoey lyrics is really ear catching. Your sisters humorous description hits right to home! :)
[avatar]
Hey Kate, i got a little excited when i saw you've made some songs, this one is a different path for you but i like it, although you could sing the phonebook and it would sound good. I need to try this logic out for myself soon. The layering towards the end was superb, loved it
[avatar]
Very different from everything I heard from you, Kate. Gorgeous song again! You are so versatile! Fantastic lyrics, music, vocals, playing, instrumentation. Magnificent song. The backing vocals and layers are spectacular. What a wonderful listen!
[avatar]
I was so dazzled by the sounds that I didn't tune in to how brilliant the lyrics were at first. Smooth yet bouncy, the mix is full of goodies but given room to breathe. I can just picture an animation of the feisty little mouse making her way through the big scary city 🐭🥁
[avatar]
it is so good to have you back among the fawmers, ive been following you on youtube and always love whatever you are doing. this one is different from the rest (at least from my perspective) and is a true delight. i love how you go from the heart drum to the war drum and finally to the war cry. your singing is an inspiration and the arrangement is a joy.
[avatar]
Infectious pop groove! It's still in my head...
[avatar]
Oh so sweet melodies and harmonies intertwined with the synth and all those great grooves.
[avatar]
Magic, original and aural perfection...in other words, fabulous!
[avatar]
I love that change up into the refrain / chorus. The instrumental is super pretty, and contrasts beautifully with the guttural cries - you have an amazing voice!
[avatar]
Gosh darn, dude! This is super cool! Your voice is excellent as per usual. The war cry “I I I”s are extra spicy and cool! And the sketch is cute af.
[avatar]
There are so many great lines in here! So much to love in a compact package. Really lovely!
[avatar]
Yes, Kate Stanton does indeed sing--and so, so beautifully. Really cool melody composition here and executed to perfection. The whole idea behind the music and lyrics of it is dynamite-and the performance is exquisite. I thought the mix was great, but I can see how you might want to experiment with how your vocal sits just the tiniest bit when you take a fresh listen. Stellar.
[avatar]
Lured in by the dream-pop tag! This is really nice, somehow it reminded me a little of the band The Weather Station whose new album I've been enjoying, although the chorus has a more anthemic edge to it! Great stuff.
[avatar]
Glad you're back and "churning them out", because I think you and I have both learned that if you do a TON OF MUSIC, by golly--you're going to get better. You've got some amazing "production values" in this one. I'll bet this took more than an hour or two to put together, too... 😉 I'm not even going to talk that much about your angelic voice because...I think you've heard about that a time or two before. I'm going to be all about how great the SONGWRITING and PRODUCTION is, okay? (Even though your voice has always given me goosebumps!) ❤️
[avatar]
So Nice... those sweeping lovely vocals really shine. The music has a smooth Pop groove going on... Dig it!
Enjoyed the listen.
[avatar]
Beautiful song! Love the delay on the plucks, it really adds the dream in the dream pop. Your bg vocals (the war cry itself) in the "and it goes/war cry" sections are out if this world!
[avatar]
Your wordless section is awesome. The whole production is spare and full at the same time: that's a fine achievement. Hooky, empowering: I like everything about this.
[avatar]
Brilliant, love the backing vocals as well. Such depth of emotion grabs the listener. Spacious orchestration!
[avatar]
Oh yes, this really makes me stop and listen, the vocals particularly in the '& it goes' and 'war cry' sections just tug at the heart strings. Fab ❤️
[avatar]
Very impressive first FAWM entry. I hear the labor of passion that went into this. From a lyric perspective, it's encouraging that you've captured an idea with just 2 verses and a superb, catchy, memorable hook. I have to tell you, it's hard not to hear you and resist not filling my own creative space with "how can I collaborate?". You're just that good. No doubt in my mind. I'd be interested to hear what you do after additional attention to it. I especially like how your vocal rather does more than "peek" over the track...in this case it's very effective. Rock on, ma'am!
[avatar]
Love the piano. Heart drum? War cry? Excellent lyrics. Good percussion and beautiful vocals.
[avatar]
cooool...
[avatar]
Love this.
[avatar]
Wonderful vocals.. lovely arrangement and production. This really is a great song. Nice! Super start to FAWM.
[avatar]
the rhythm of her own heart drum
Love this line. Great vocal and melody, I love the choices you made in dynamics, great first song!
[avatar]
This is quite the enjoyable listen. I was not expecting something this trance-y from the title, but it works. You have a rich vocal here, too - it has more warmth than typical pop. Good stuff.
[avatar]
Soaring vocals, very good lyrics that feel authentic…
[avatar]
What a great start to FAWM. I really hear something here. The chorus is a war cry. a great one!
[avatar]
Stunning and entrancing as always. I like the orchestration. Great start!
[avatar]
Lovely music and nice lyrics. But I think my favourite parts are the '& it goes ahhhhhh' bits - they sound amazing!
[avatar]
Nice use of the combination of vocals backing and instrumentation. Not overdone just lets your great voice find its place and speak out!
[avatar]
@sbs
One of my favorites, Kate! This is so awesome. The vocals so upfront are cool - very Broadway! And that melody! Super!
[avatar]
Love the sparse atmospheric instrumentation. That chorus is so freaking great. Amazing vocal and the harmonies are killer. A great start to FAWM 2025
[avatar]
Love your voice Kate. The melodic break is delicious a very original chorus??
[avatar]
Oh I love this! What a great vocal performance, and such cool instrumentals to support. Very cool piece!
