The Happiest of Towns (The Saddest Town)

I don't feel like writing a second verse--maybe later

Lyrics

If you know me
You know
Something I don’t know
Something I don’t know

I was born in the happiest of towns
Some things we shared: light and sound
If you knew me
You’d know the way out of town
You don’t know me
Some streets are best for [going] around

It's the saddest town

Get the feeling of a paradox and maybe something more ominous that I can see. Like it a lot.

Nice! I like the way that this builds and circles back, repeats, echoes and swirls.

I love your vocal delivery on this one. And the layered/answering vocals are a nice touch. I like how you take a fairly simple lyric (not that many words using repetition) and make it into something more complex, both in sound and in idea.

Wow - a very beautiful tune, made even more so by the effects on the guitar (and keyboard?). Ethereal! Your best one this FAWM.

The way that first "Something I don't know" hits musically and tonally... it's just gorgeous, just perfect. The whole song is suffused with a sadness, with reflection, with gentle emotion, that's absolutely riveting.

I like the questions here. What town? If ... this and that. You would ... and then 'saddest' after 'happiest.' What happened? And then the abstract but real 'some streets' clunks down to imprint the separation.
I love being more confused at the end of a song that at the beginning, and you've found a balance between those two extremities that sails along on questions that have no real answers. Bravo.

Things are not all they seem! I really get this! Probably my fav of yours notwithstanding the little vid elsewhere.

@sbs
Love the percussive vocal delivery while retaining the airy vibe you’re known for. Really quite lovely - a favorite of yours for me.

As already mentioned the opening line is great but the rest of the lyric is equally top notch, I really like this tune it reminds me of other artists but only like top of my tongue vaguely similar, I like that it’s so stripped down, just singer songlet writer with a dash of dreamy textural guitars

To listen feels a bit melancholic and also dreamy!
I love the circleing of the locals/lyrics/music and that sad ending.
Plus the layering of the vocals!
Guitar is a treat … sounds so light and soft as your vocals!
Great!

Lovely other-worldly guitar sounds there, and some nice synth pads (?) lurking in the background. Vocal also sounds ace. Doesn’t really need a second verse imo, there’s a cool circularity to just repeating the first! And as Jerry says, the main lyrical hook is majestic. Really digging this one.

LOVE the opening line: "If you know me, you know something I don't know".

Great song! ❤️

this could be the foundation of a psychedelic masterpiece in the vein of jefferson airplane. and you wouldnt need any more verses, just some sanfrancisco sound coming out of guitars hooked up to marshall amps.
