#1chordprogression #midipop

Needed an upbeat palate cleanser after my last song, so I messed around with the iPad-as-MIDI-controller and made a fun little guitar loop, then added to that, and then wrote a bunch of a silly words to go with it. It did the trick.

Lyrics

You and me, moving through earthquakes
Can’t settle down cuz the ground is bouncing
Just another summer here it comes
Call each other birds, cuz we’re of a feather
Everything is best when we do it together
Duck one wrecking ball but here comes another one

Come on baby
After all that we’ve been through
Come on baby
Let’s see what else this thing can do

How many times, how many places
You’re the car that my dog-heart chases
Gonna keep on running til I die
You make the plan, I’ll get the gasoline
Turn the key and get away squeaky clean
Said I’d be by your side for life, didn’t I?

Come on baby
After all that we’ve been through
Come on baby
Let’s see what else this thing can do

Red light, green light, stop and go
Or in the backseat, nice and slow

Now we stand at the edge of the precipice
Thinking hard but I don’t know what the lesson is
Just don’t wanna go like Thelma and Louise
Anyhow there are roads to explore and
Always something we might like a little more and
Let’s keep this going oh baby please

Great groove you got going here. I love the echo on the vocals and the harmonies too.

There's an early Springsteen feel about these lyrics. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

PS How do you use an i-pad as a MIDI controller?

Really digging the groove. The chorus is amazing. The title line is great, and a great double meaning. Really puts me in the place of just cruising with a hint of mischief.

Damn, I love that rhythm track. Such a perfect backdrop to your great vocal melody. I'm really digging this a lot. I can only think of how easy it would be to use a looper for this if you were playing out.

Those harmonies are sweet. Love that echo thing too. Lots of interesting syncopation. “ Your the car my dog heart chases.” Nicely humorous!

The variations in the vocal phrasing made me totally forget this is just one progression. You say the words are silly but to me they seem to tell a story.

I love the spunky afternoon feel and persuasive harmonies of this one, ready to go do some more while the music just keeps on rolling.

Listened on my phone speaker and this sounded great. Now listening on studio speakers and it sounds immense. Absolutely love the way the lush harmonies join on the 'baby' lines. And the way you deliver the three syllable words/phrases like 'gasoline', 'precipice' - fun and funky. Funky fun even. Lovely stuff!

Oh this is so much fun! I love the groove and the vocal melody and words are fantastic. My favorite line is "You’re the car that my dog-heart chases."

Such a delightfully light-n-funky pop gem! The percolating vocals of the verses, the smooth vocals of the choruses--a breezy summer jam, just perfect for kicking back and getting down. (The fact the the lyrics subvert our upbeat expectations and into much more interesting and nuanced territory just makes it even better! I know you refer to the lyrics as "a bunch of silly words," but I definitely get some Bonnie & Clyde vibes going on here!)

So innovative. I reallly love the way you add in the contemporary details of the story.

This song is a BANGER! you did a great job making it special with all the bits and pieces of production added here and there. love it!

This is incredibly infectious. I'm trying to focus on the song and not the really fantastic production, but it's clearly just a great song, however it's dressed. Your throwaway lyrics are great. In fact, I wish my most consider lyrics had this kind of snap. The harmonies give such great texture to this. It makes me think of random fun weird pop songs... I'm thinking of that Pizzicato Five song that was used in Futurama.... Baby Love Child! It's got that same kind of sweetness/saltiness thing.

Solid chord progression, solid R&B feel. Love the vocal harmonies. Good stuff!
