Singer/Songwriter from Ontario. Primarily a vocalist and writer, though I plink at piano and dabble in DAW's.
Excited for my 2nd FAWM! After an exhausting and incredibly rewarding 1st FAWM last year, I fell back in love with writing and decided to work on a trilogy of albums through last 50/90 and this FAWM.
My work in the past was almost entirely through the veil of concept albums. I consider myself a writer first before songwriting, so it was easy to hide behind fiction when trying to "Be Real" was so intimidating. FAWM pulled me out a bad block and a depressive spell and taught me to trust my gut, go with my instincts, and move on without all of that wonderful second-guessing and self-doubt that us creatives love to get caught up in.
Through 50/90 I developed the idea of the trilogy and wrote and released the first two parts, inspired by the passage of time and seasons.
The 1st album, Memory Ln., is about the hazy warmth and safety of Nostalgia. It's upbeat, but also full of longing and a sadness that hangs in the background. It's about the lost summers and the memories that keep you going or hold you back. It is intentionally vague in portions, because that's how memory can be.
The 2nd, The Quiet Drive Forward & The Quiet Drive Back, is a Fall album about a very specific time of my life filled with that cooling, quiet anger that comes with Regret.
The project for this FAWM is about Loss, in all forms, and is a Winter album to match this wonderful February drudgery, so if I bum y'all out, I apologize beforehand.
I'm excited to finally finish this project that's been in my head for the last year. Thank you for listening if you do.

hello again brandon,
nice to see you again. after last year's FAWM i listened to all your FAWM tracks on soundcloud and left a few comments - i hope they made sense, LOL.
anyway, thank you for your recent kind comments and support. my music has very little appeal, sot it's always cool to find an appreciative listener such as yourself...
((oh, and that you got the silent hill vibes made me extremely happy - akira yamaoka is my hero))

Thank you so much for all your kind words and encouragement! It means a lot to me! For the ambient "depth" there's a few things I tend to do. For "Stars" specifically I just put the "cathedral" reverb directly on the tracks (I do this a lottt, usually between 5-50% wet depending on what I'm going for). Other things I've found helpful for depth in ambient is using some sort of foundation like a drone or noise sample, dabbling with the widener on the utility function, stacking a bunch of effects, running certain tracks through paulxstretch, using non-music "textures", and track panning. I also tend to mess with settings if I'm using a stock sound. I hope some of this might be helpful!
I've been loving what you've posted so far! Its supposed to be really bleak weather wise next week and I'm kinda excited for it cause certain music just hits harder (yours included!) Your production is amazing as always, it blows me away how finished your songs sound! Really impressive especially on the FAWM timeline. Maybe sometime we could get together and swap Ableton ideas? Let me know! I hope you're doing well & I'm excited to hear what you've been cooking up!

Waking up to your comments made my day, I feel very seen and the bands you mentioned are all very important and influential to me. I hold your words dear and I appreciate your thoughtful listening!

Thank you for taking a listen to The Cruelty and your very kind words. Hoping I can find inspiration that isn't always Trump-focussed, but I suppose I should just accept whatever comes along :)

Thanks for your thoughtful comments on Drawn Onward (or should I just call it, Fuck If I Know?)
It was fun to do and very liberating to sing :)
Cheers!

I felt congested and didn't want to wake my family by singing loudly this morning this morning on 'Fierce Independence' so I really really appreciated you kind comment on that one. I was under a time crunch and thought "eff it, I can delete it later or replace the demo if I want" but I think I will leave it as the simple groggy thing it is.

Not quessing out of context, on the contrary. Ukulele is usually the first sign of a _that FAWMer_ that tries to get 17 songs out in the first day just to impress with numbers. But it's all about the happy accidents, make them feel even more special.
