Liner Notes

Prompt was “You can’t miss this.”

Starting thinking — what if he literally can’t, because he’s disappeared it from his mind? What if he thinks that’s what healing is, but really it just messes up his capability for relationship with anyone else?

Had about 15 min at the top and bottom of the hour. This is almost saying what I want it to say.

Lyrics

Denial’s like a river
Oblivion’s another one
Standing on the further shore
Forgetting means you won

But you can’t see me through it,
The cloud that you exhale,
Shedding memories like skins
Dump the cargo, raise the sail

You can’t miss her, baby
There’s a hole where she’s supposed to be
You can’t miss the love you lost
Guess that’s why you’re losing me

Not even a shadow
You turned and tore the leaf
Wouldn’t feel it as I fell
There’s no air to breathe

You can’t miss her, baby
There’s a hole where she’s supposed to be
You can’t miss the love you lost
Guess that’s why you’re losing me

Found a box of memories underneath your bed
Lipstick kiss on a ticket stub
Love note signed a name you’ve never said
I guess I’ll fade away like that,
Another ex you x’ed
Another vacuum in your chest
You left your heart for dead

You can’t miss her, baby
There’s a hole where she’s supposed to be
You can’t miss the love you lost
Guess that’s why you’re losing me

Your lyric weaves a spell. Very well done in a short time.
I took a long time for mine. 4 days late. Listen if you like.

Amazing lyrics on a very relatable story. I love the line "another vacuum in your chest. You left your heart for dead"

So many amazing pictures in this song! Great work!

Solid writing with excellent imagery and storytelling. Love the mementos as a device to talk about your own expendable position

Great, write! Really like the treatment of relatable relationships most of us have had holding onto memories of love gone by… It’s like saving the dirt from a hole you dug.

Can’t wait to hear the uke treatment and beautiful voice :-) Write on!

This has been said already, but that first line is pure genius! Taking a cliche and turning it around pulls you in to get the rest of what you're saying. These are painfully beautiful lyrics and, IMHO, deserve some great music to set them to.

"Denial’s like a river " caught me right from the beguining.
Clever lyrics !
It feels like she's not breaking up, rather upgrading to be a mourning material.
Japanese say that the death of love is the only thing stronger than love. But I'm not sure if this means that the death of an old love could also kill a current one...

Beautiful and moving writing. Very creative take on the prompt.

"Shedding memories like skins" is such an evocative phrase.

I can't help thinking of this as the human, tragic side to science fiction stories with erased memories, alternate timeliness, etc. Either way, it makes a nice contrast to the more typical story of being jealous of a partner's ex. The ability to connect and care really can make a difference.
