Fifteen Songs Later

Liner Notes

It's time for the annual song about @judypie. Thankfully not written and uploaded tomorrow as they would have been a Bit Much.

Given this is my 15th FAWM, this will be my 15th FAWM song about JMS! I played around with looping little picked guitar lines and used that as the basis for the progression. Also dug out the knock-off e-bow for the choruses.

Excuse the sweary intro, Worms Armageddon is an intense game as I'm sure you'll appreciate. Skip the first 15 seconds for a lovely clean song you can play for your grandma.

Lyrics

what can I say that I haven’t said before today?
find new ways to say it, like there’s 50 words for love
but it doesn’t wain
it’s flourishing
and it writes itself
fifteen songs later
it burns more than ever

caught in the waves
caught in the glow
always caught in between
from dust devils, to tea wars, to singing birds in the trees
and when I think back
how have we squeezed it all in
it writes itself
fifteen songs later
it burns more than ever

and on the sixteenth, the sixtieth, six-hundredth too
I’ll find new ways to sing about you, I know I will
fifteen songs later
it burns more than ever

The little picked acoustic loops work really well - really like those. What's this about a 'knock off' ebow? What's that, an ebow made by some imposter company?!

Anyway, this is really lovely. "and on the sixteenth, the sixtieth, six-hundredth too I’ll find new ways to sing about you, I know I will" - you lucky, lucky bastards - that put a genuine tear in my eye. Up there amongst my favourites of your Julie songs 😊

Hee hee sorry but the first 15 seconds had me in stitches. Ahhh you guys, and just when i thought it was going to be a stomping harsh banger about your relationship, you take me off to a cloud of love and melodic beauty. So many hooks in the melody that take me back to something i can't pinpoint, but the beauty in those major 6th chords and then the hugeness of the harmonies all over the fifteen years later part are perfect. Top stuff you insatiable love birds

Ooh those guitars are nice. Kind of have a Collections of Colonies of Bees feel about them. I don't get to say that often. You're voice also sounds better than ever here; a true tone for the truest of feels!

it's all beam sad, buht luv dose maek fulls avast 4 triyng, donut?

Love how this sits in a 6/8 grove that kind of emerges from the intro. super verse melody - really sweet melodic lines you've put together there - the harmonies provide a fabulous backdrop. The differing vocal treatments create loads of space for all the parts that's floaty and dreamy. Great write

I played the first 15 seconds to Yuki this morning as proof that I'm not the only one who yells at games. Didn't listen to the rest, but I will!

No need to drag your domestics into the public thank you. Nice ambiguous timing on the twiddling guitars. This one feels quite Radioheady slash Thom Yorkie bar, especially in the style and inflections in the vocal melody. Is that drum loop a bit on the loud side?

You want to write a song about @judypie? Ok, lemmie help you with the lyrics:

Burp
You make me wanna puke in my mouth
Like a bird i just wanna fly south
To get away
Oh get away (yeah)
I'd rather lick a camel's rear while it's taking a shit
Then have to spend another second with you cause you're the pits
Burp
I think im in love no I'm not
Godammit i need another shot
Hand over the jack vodka and gin
It still won't help you're worse than sin
Id rather go to church everyday
Then have to be with you cause that would not be okay
It is february not may
They say pottery is made of clay
My name ia adam not ray or jay
If it rains the sky is grey
There's a potato chip company called Lays (I'm actually eating some now haha)
Bye now I'm going away
Today
Dr. Dre
Santa rides a sleigh

Top shelf track here dude, Julie certainly always inspires your finest work.
Great how you drip feed the various rhythmic patterns, which feels kinda disoriented, before they comfortably coalesce at the minute mark.
Love how you’ve managed to write a beautiful love song without actually using the word love.
Nice e bow, that reminds me I bought one last year (after my mate used one effectively for your/our song!) and I’m yet to utilise it this Fawm! Vocals on point as ever, lush harmonies.

Very pretty. As everyone says, that loopy guitar is so addictive. Some wonderful production touches as well as the usual beautiful harmonies — very amore-ish. What's the knock-off E-Bow? I'm in the market.

This was my thought progression:
“nice Greenwood guitar loop”
“nice Yorke drum loop”
“nice Greenwood bass line”
“hold on, does that make this a Radiohead song?”
“have Radiohead made anything this upbeat since Nice Dream?”
“ah yes, Optimistic of course!”
I enjoyed it all, despite the grossly unrelatable lyric 😉

The shy, fiddly guitar bits with the confident bass mix great together. Nice sentiment. I've written my wife (of less than a year) two songs. Happy songs are tough, haha
[avatar]
This is so brilliant. Nothing more needs saying. Glad I've popped onto Fawm today and heard this song.
[avatar]
Omg I love it so much. Especially the intro haha. "It writes itself" is such a lovely sentiment, and I really like how songs stand in for years in "fifteen songs later".
[avatar]
what a bloody sap. Anyway this is great, love that loopy/mathy guitar, and the crunchy beats on this are class. The backwardsy/e-bow(?) guitar bits are really nice. Is the snare ever so slightly lagging behind, off grid? Whatever's going on it sounds great, a really nice swing to the beat. Harmonies at the end are lovely too. Lovely stuff

Why were you playing Worms Armageddon at the bottom of some kind of huge cavern? Is this the "man cave" that I've heard people talk about? The rhythm on this is WILD and I'm not sure I really got my head around it until about halfway through the song. When the harmony vox soar out of the loopy guitars though it's magic.

Lovely song. The "it writes itself" line soars.

So beautiful!! Amazing vocals. You sound a bit like Rufus Wainwright here.
[avatar]
I went Intro and all. Yeah that beat is behind! It really contrasts to a sweet lyric. Clever and different.
[avatar]
This sounds timeless, just like our lov..

Sorry about that.

Constructive criticism: whilst I initially thought this was a beautiful song and wonderfully romantic and legit tears were springing to my eyes.. it then dawned on me that Gary Barlow once wrote ONE MILLION love songs later. So I’m afraid this now feels pallid in comparison. Like, do you even love me at all?! Is this meant to be a smack in the face? I don’t know what to think anymore.
Anyway, I appreciate the effort I suppose. Do you want a cup of tea up there? Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

ive heard of singing behind the beat, but this is something new, the beat dragging behind the vocal. it has a disturbing effect considering the lovey-dovey lyric. i like having a number of different things going on at the same time.
[avatar]
When it first starts off( beyond the sweary words) the rhythm something else entirely. I love the the lyrics, sentiments. A great tribute to love that continues. I'm watching "Outlander" and it's just making me think about that enduring, timeless love. ❤️
[avatar]
I love the lumbering dreamy approach to this one! It's lovely and full and beautiful. Just like the two of you.... Awwwwwwwwww ;) It truly is a wonderful lyric and I am glad you shared it!
[avatar]
Really interesting song this one. Great instruments and sounds, very creative.
[avatar]
Ooooh look at you being all sweet and sincere! Your voice sounds lovely on this, especially those layered harmonies, and I love that tinkly guitar throughout that almost sounds like a harp. And that e bow sounds positively swoony and I love that bouncy bass at the end of the choruses. Brilliant and romantic concept with that "fifteen songs later" and that rhythm shift, harmonies and the lyrics on the outro/bridgey thing are also great. And YES thank you for getting this in before tomorrow, really might have borked my insulin levels otherwise.
