Yesterday's Men

Liner Notes

FC: aka Sympathy for the Crypto-Bro. If you're picturing the repellent character played by Nicholas Hoult in 'The Menu' then you're on the right track.

Musically I think I was aiming for a kind of PJ Harvey-esque blues stomp, maybe via Cate Le Bon.

Ably assisted by the Yesterday’s Mensemble on BVs. Thank you guys!

Lyrics

He’ll find inspiration
While he mines information
Hoover up the minnows
Like a blister pack of Vicodin

(Yesterday’s men
Are well spent)

Rawdogging it from the Bay
All aboard for St Moritz

He’s a digital nomad

It’s divine inspiration
When we mine information, yeah
Got this girl who knows it all
The magazine positions—Up top!
Homie rolling from the first
“Alles fühlt sich komisch an”

Never knowing
What is real
What is feeling

The way he’s chewing
On those gums
You know he’s bound
For the ceiling

this is my favourite of your songs this year so far! maybe partly cuz ive heard it many more times than the others haha! ur so incredible. i still think im the girl who knows it all 😉 i think "Hoover up the minnows
Like a blister pack of Vicodin" is a perfect encapsulation of everything i love about your poetry in general. you use flow and imagery an insert words that feel so modern into it which adds this vibe contrast and makes it all feel weirdly liminal, and you gotta dig to get the meaning out. youre incredible

i swear i'd already commented on this . . . . . but it appears not.

thanks to all who contributed to the little pocket of awesomeness.

Very cool funky feel and also love the bass work, lyrics and wonderful vocals. Well done!

Loving the funky/bluesy influences on this, and that thumping bass that keeps it chugging along. The minimal bass works really well to bring the superb lyrics and vocals to the foreground, and the mensemble is the icing on the cake!

I like the thumping beat through it. The bluesy parts intertwine all lovely and that. The "never knowing what is real..." ending is ace.

I like this. Great catchy music and sound with interesting lyrics.

I'm really digging this. The lyrics make just enough sense but aren't too sensible. Terrific collab, it grooves!

I honestly love the bluesy guitar stuff and I have probably never said that before in my entire life. The gang vox add a lot! The lyrics are slightly cryptic (haha) but cutting, those high vocal notes sound great too, so pure.

Great groove, great lyrics, great guitar, great work!

This is ace! The guitar work really stands out on this one - great work. Vocals and lyrics top notch as ever too. Honourable mention for the MW choir as well!

The blues/country vibes are so cool - neither a genre I tend to jump into often, but this is so bloody moreish. Excellent BV work to the MWs too

Interesting lyrics that have thoughts of the life we're living. Great guitars through the whole song and with a surprising production all to the end. Well done. 🙏

Love that guitar! Great singing and harmonies. Hoo hooooo!

Awesome stuff. Super cool execution from the harmonies to the trippy ending. Nicely scathing portrait of an addled grifter, fits the music perfectly, makes me want to clench my jaws

Ooo yes Anja, this groove is right up my street. And the two riffs really grab me. Then the layering of the low and high vocals truly brings it to life. Oh and i haven't mentioned how bloody catchy it is. One of my favs so far,EDIT - i trawling through my fave fawmers and suddenly realised the collab element in this. So big up to all you men vocals giving it that added element

Great stuff! Really happy to be one of the Yesterday's Mensemble backing you up on this one. The twangy guitar work is so fun and I love the extra bits of flangey production added since the rough draft I last heard!

Ooh this is a very cool groove. Love the guitar on this and the additional vocals are a great touch, as is the outro! Great lyrics, too -- that "yesterday's men" refrain is excellent.
