Liner Notes

This wasn't planned. I was working on something "simple" to begin with. But then this piano melody came up. Next thing I know, I was composing strings and bass and everything else lol. Not that simple, especially because I'm using a new interface with a new DAW, new plug-ins, new everything. The learning by doing is kind of stressing me out, feels like I have to learn everything from scratch, but I'm so pleased with the sound of the interface that I'm taking the extra stress - on top of writing 14 songs.

PS: Voice still a bit out of order after bronchitis, it's the first time singing in weeks. Will be re-recorded eventually.

Instruments:
Nord piano (piano, strings)
Marcus miller M2 5-string bass
Rode NT1 Microphone
SSL Drums

Lyrics

Was your loneliness curated?
Are you going back to sleep now?
Did you "x" me out of your head?
Am I a sorry tale to tell, one of yours?

Chorus:
As long-term memory
I'm relentless on repeat
A shadow-workers dream
I'm staying out of reach
I'm still alive
And I won't die
That easily
As it seems

Bridge:
Oh I know
I really know
How it feels to be alone

Chorus

I really like those distant sounding violins, the percussion in this, and this has such an unusual and engaging melody. Beautiful song. Well done!

The decompression in your voice adds so much emotion. Don’t know if it’s bronchitis-related, but it feels so rich. I love so many of these lines. Especially relentless on repeat and loneliness curated. There’s this quality that feels like Tori Amos all grown up. And it feels like this whole song is Shadow Work.

Lovely to hear you again. Such a beautiful web you've woven here to capture (seduce) and transport any innocent listener. I've been watching lots of Giallo cinema recently and this would so fit not just in tone and feel musically... it has a ready made narrative threads to launch a perfect plot in the genre, Well done, my friend. Hugs.

Very atmospheric. A bit unusual, but this keeps me hooked. I like the way it is sung. The delay backings are great! I really like this!

Congrats on conquering the new equipment. And what a great, expressive vocal! Dreamy, yet energetic music. What an accomplishment, especially under time presssure.

Very 90's - right up my alley. I love the haunting feel of the melody line with that piano. Awesome song, thanks!

That piano melody is hypnotizing. Great production and mix too, it sounds super clean with each instrument in it's place. I adore the verses of this song and your harmonies in the chorus, kinda reminds me of early-Steven Wilson! Great start to FAWM, super excited to see what's next!

Well this is cool. I dig the layers throughout this track, it's one of the things I love about your work. Your voice sounded good to me, and even if you don't think it was your best, the mild growl to it sounded intentional for this kind of dark vibe - not sure I would change anything! What a neat start.

You start with a fantastic opening line. Of course the piano already sucked me right into this, but it gets better and better as it goes. Interesting lyrics. I love all those vocals layers and effects too. That brilliantly distorted, grungy ending. So cool!

Whew! Tough lyrics in a beautiful package!

I love the sound of this, the piano and your voice as always, but just the production itself sounds clean and so smooth, its very pleasing.

Very cool vibe, quite haunting. Vocal is great, tail-end of bronchitis or not - really strong. The backing vocals are superb - the high part that doubles the lead a fair amount, and the more incidental parts that punctuate here and there. A cracker of a start!

Love that piano motif. Very atmospheric. Vocals sound great. Love the off kilter chorus. The strings give it a real horror movie score vibe. A great track

The sonic landscape you created is very spacious, for the most part, intensifying the feeling of loneliness. Love the opening line -“was your loneliness curated”

Instant Evanescence vibes, but darker. I like the lyrics as they leave room for interpretation. Seems like you're also processing something. What a strong start for FAWM!

New interface? New DAW? Tell me more :O

I am also totally stressed out from having to learn so much again today since I’ve not made music since last year!
This is well worth your efforts, so moody and cool. Ooh and the strings are eeeerie.

@sbs
Piano, vocals, strings = hypnotic! Intriguing lyrics. And the drums - oh yeah! What a treat, even if recovering from bronchitis!
