Come To Me
Liner Notes
@cheslain: Geoff is on a songwriting hiatus but he sent me this tragic piece some time ago. I love the tragic tone and I decided to make it a folky piece. Unusual for me it consist mostly of simple cowboy chords.
Instrumentation: acoustic and electric guitar with just a little bit of slide, and bass
Lyrics
COME TO ME
VERSE
She was born of a woman,
And her lovin’ man
But the grave took him early
With a gun in his hand
He died neath the willow
That lone weeping tree
When the wind starts a blowing
It says come to me.
CHORUS
Jenny, Oh Jenny
Do you feel my chagrin?
I’m in the ground now
With our kith and our kin
But don’t you feel bitter
And don’t you feel sad
Just find a good man
And my heart will be glad
VERSE
Then her mother grew hardened,
As all widows will
With no lover to warm her
From a cold winter’s chill
She’s under the briar
All broken but free
When the rain starts a falling
It says come to me.
CHORUS
Jenny, Oh Jenny
Do you feel my chagrin?
I’m in the ground now
With our kith and our kin
But don’t you feel bitter
And don’t you feel sad
Just find a good man
And my heart will be glad
CHORUS REPEAT
Jenny, Oh Jenny
Do you feel my chagrin?
I’m in the ground now
With our kith and our kin
But don’t you feel bitter
And don’t you feel sad
Just find a good man
And my heart will be glad
MIDDLE
You have to find love Jenny,
Jenny find love
We both will be watching,
From here up above.
You have to love somebody
Ev-ery day
So find a good man
Please hear what we say
For the love of a good man
Will help you to find your own way
VERSE
Jenny’s road it was weary
Embittered and long
There’s no comfort in grieving
For things that go wrong
He died of the fever
That man of her dreams
When her heart starts to aching
He says come to me
REPEAT TO FADE
When her heart starts to aching
He says come to me.
When her heart starts to aching
He says come to me…
