my baby asked me not to
by @miga
Liner Notes
This song has the feel of a sad #bluesy #ballad in which a criminal is lamenting his choices and missing his baby.
This #acousticonetake was written Sunday night. I was trying to fall asleep. My mind drifted to "We work the black seam together" and then to "Hounds of Winter," both by Sting. Then the first line popped into my head and I could hear Sting singing it, though I only had a rhythm and no melody. But when another rhyming line and then some semblance of a melody appeared, I dragged myself out of bed and down to the basement to see what would happen with a guitar. Fortunately it didn't take long. Or maybe I was too lazy to work any harder. Why does the muse choose bedtime? How cruel.
(Also, I really can't hear Sting singing it anymore. 😂)
Lyrics
my baby asked me not to
my baby asked me not to
asked me not to, anymore
to not feed the obsession
that had wrapped around my core
But I would not be bothered by
my baby’s loving pleas
And so I kept on dancing
with my own toxic disease
I’m sorry
I’m sorry baby
for what I could not do:
unhook from all the habits that
took me far from you
my baby asked me not to
asked me not to, anymore
encourage jealous thoughts
that led me to my brother’s door
By the time I got there
I was deaf to all his pleas
Now in some way we’re all dying
from my cold deadly disease
I’m sorry
I’m sorry baby
For what I did not do
Control the raging animal
That dragged me far from you
You should have seen my baby
She’s beautiful as daylight
Her smile was like the sunshine
but now my life is midnight
You should have seen my baby
when she was my baby
is she just a memory of love?
I’m sorry
I’m sorry, baby
For what I did not do
For all the trouble I’m in
For all the pain I gave you
I’m sorry
I’m sorry, baby
Tell me how did you know?
And now I wonder if I’m always
bound to be alone
And now I wonder if I’m always bound
to be alone

I really like the vocal tone, and dynamics -- that lift into "all the pain" works very well -- and vibrato details. 👏
And thanks to the Muse for keeping you awake 🙂
