7. Under The Wildflowers

Liner Notes

7th track from my 50/90 project. Another one about lost youth and quiet nights. I went camping a lot in my younger days with my family and friends, and now those memories feel like a different life, like a lost limb.

I'm glad I have photos and proof that it happened, because I get to see the thing that brought my dad peace when he was around. It's bittersweet, for sure! I'm just glad I experienced those nights in the first place. A lot of the photo's I used for this project come from those trips, and it feels poetic to reach into my dad's stack of CD's and USB's and pull out these distant, foggy memories. Hope the end product gets a little bit of that out into audio form.

Lyrics

Verse 1:
Those were the days,
Where the summer felt endless.
We were breaking bread
With the flawed and faithless.

When the fire was dying out,
We thought it would last.
Now we're older than the
Ones who made us.

Pre-Chorus 1:
Oh, I wonder how,
We'll be crumbling down to dust?
We'll be lost and found,
In the rubble and the rust.

Chorus:
So bury my body where the stars can find me,
In the willows and the weeds, my friend.
I remember when you told me,
Someday we will be born again.

Sooner or later, when the wind is howling,
This place will bring me quiet and peace,
And under the wildflowers,
I can finally sleep.

Verse 2:
When I'm alone,
I'm alive in my stories.
I bathe in music,
and I revel in glory.

And though I may act like I'm fine,
There's a truth I should tell;
When I'm in a crowd,
I will always be lonely.

Pre-Chorus 2:
Oh I promise now,
I won't throw myself away,
And if I shut down,
I won't pass from all the pain.

Chorus:
So bury my body where the stars can find me,
In the willows and the weeds, my friend.
I remember when you told me,
Someday we will be born again.

Sooner or later, when the wind is howling,
This place will bring me quiet and peace,
And under the wildflowers,
I can finally sleep.

Bridge:
If all the ink should fade,
On all the pages,
The stories that I made to help me
Sleep will last me ages.

I think that I should dream
Of how she saved my life.
I'm sorry when I return to tales of
Loss and rage and spite.

Chorus 3:
So lay down with my body where the stars can find me,
In the willows and the weeds, my love.
Remember when you told me,
Someday you'll feel like you are enough?

And, sooner or later, when the music's fading,
This place will bring us quiet and peace,
And under the wildflowers I can finally sleep.

Under The Wildflowers,
I can finally breathe.

Love the use of the sound effects, with the crackling fire and crickets. Some great lyrics here -- those first two stanzas are my favorite. The song comes in strong with that beat and the vocal effects. Really cool track.

I love the intro, really sets the mood for the track! The percussion is fantastic here. This does feel like a very bittersweet song. "Willows and weeds" is beautiful. The melody is so sad, but so kind toward those memories. The screaming is so raw, it really elevates the song. Another emotionally devastating couple of minutes. Bravo!

Diggin the pre chorus, so many good images that spark memories for me as well! Contemplation of the circle... great write and performance!
