Meditation/Exploration

Liner Notes

I got inspired the other day listening to an album by Oren Ambarchi, and thought I'd have a go at a minimalist guitar thing. May have had too much fun exploring the idea and went overboard with layers/FX/etc. Really had fun messing around with the UA Galaxy Space Echo (Roland RE-201 replica), which I'd completely forgotten I'd got since last FAWM!
This likely needs A LOT more mixing on some proper monitors... there's too much going on for me to hear through my teeny headphones.

Excellent guitar sounds. The interacting rhythms of the various parts are infectious.

Ever come across the Paul de Jong / Mark Zammuto project "The Books"? This has that same, clean, dry, perfectly-executed vibe rolling along in something that sounds much more intricate than 4/4. This is absolutely bloody lovely.

Some very cool syncopated stuff going on here, real Reichian feel to it. That droning chord in the background creates such a cool context for everything to dance around ahead of it. It certainly doesn't feel like an experiment in fiddle-with-all-the-pedals; all the elements seem to sit really nicely. I was expecting a bell curve dynamic here, but I really liked the dead stop with the trailing reverb towards the end there. Top stuff! Reminds me a bit of a band @afterschoolclub and I went to see once upon a time and I'd totally forgot about their existence until now; Vessels!

Love the layering in this one! I’m getting really strong outer space vibes - spinning around in different galaxies. Also would be right at home in a sci fi move soundtrack I reckon. I like it when you go overboard with layers and FX!

Very cool - loving all the layering and the gradual build is fantastic. Really inventive and clever stuff!
