Heat Death of the Universe (Snippet)

Liner Notes

One of my stupid and/or brilliant ideas this year is to write a series of Snippets. These are random ideas that pop up based on a word, or a phrase, or whatever. Stuff that is catchy and fun, but in no way warrants a full song. In this case, it maybe warrants 37 seconds, which is where it's at now. I'm hoping this helps burn through my lyrical backlog of stuff that needs a home.

The lyrical snippet in my notes that spawned this one was actually "The Heat Death of the Universe is the New Black", but I didn't quite know what to do with that. I trimmed it back, and this melody popped right in there. That's what the snippets are for. Now I've written about the heat death of the universe, I can cross that note off the list, and I've got a pretty little piano ballad about yearning for oblivion. Good times.

Lyrics

I'm waiting for the heat death of the universe
To bring me solace in these hard times

We don't know what's coming next
But you understand this song's subtext

Bring me the heat death of the universe
One last time

This is lovely! And yes, I do understand the song's subtext. :)

I dig this a lot!

Nice piano playing! Love all the little suspensions and close-voicing movements!

Feels like the closing number of the last cabaret before it happens.

I like this idea of snippets and this is a really good one. It's like you say so much in such little text. Very pretty piano and melody too!

That was so pretty I had to listen to it twice!

May we all live to see the end. Also this is way prettier than it as any right to be for a snippet.

One of the joys of radio is Robin Ince taking the piss out of Brian Cox's enjoyment of the HDOTU concept (on the Infinite Monkey Cage). This sums that feeling up beautifully.
