Liner Notes

Some nights I can’t sleep no matter what I do. Friday night was one of those, so when I gave up and got up at 5.48am I stood in the kitchen and had a bit of a musical sook about it, wrote the lyrics in about 5 minutes in some kind of delirium, attempted a voice note of the melody which sounded more like a drunk frog croaking in monotone, and eventually got it mostly recorded later in the day between nap and gig I was playing that night.

I do have another guitar part for it in my head but I’m already stalled on another song I wrote days before this one and a couple of collabs to get to so I need to get it up and move on, it’s punk, it’s fawm, it’s fine. Here’s to getting some sleep!

Drums are a garageband placeholder, guitars and vocals me.

Lyrics

Get a fucking girlfriend
Get a job
Get a haircut

Give me all your money
Give me reasons
Give me credit

Everything beginning I’m not ready for it
Everything already over
I ruined it

Singing through the window I will scream right back at you
Sugar in the line the petrol turns to glue
There is nothing I can do
There is nothing you can say
What a beautiful day

Get a fucking grip
Get fucking wise
Get me started

Give me more of it
Give me an inch
Give me answers

Everything beginning I’m not ready for it
Everything already over
I ruined it

Singing through the window and I'll scream right back at you
Sugar in the line the petrol turns to glue
There is nothing I can do
There is nothing you can say
What a beautiful day

Great defiant punk anthem!

Love the use of harmonies here! That pattern of solo voice moving to harmonies for the last line of a verse or the last part of a line is really fun. Excellent punk energy, kudos for turning exhaustion into something so punchy!

5:48 am is a great title as it gives the listener
the time of day you had your rant!
And when I mean rant, I mean it in a good way
Because that is how a lot of great music begins
Good job!

Oh this is awesome! Such great Amanda Palmer vibes going on! Mad respect for this 🎧 🎵 🎧 🔉

I always feel affinity for insomniacs and night owls...I seem to straddle the categories. This song is a pleasant slap in the face. I love the way it starts so abruptly rages on and ends abruptly Also like the sardonic humor with "what a
beautiful day." Harmony is great. Music is great. Well done.

Haha it's a beautiful day when you hear your kid sing 'fucking' to the world and it's alll good lol.
Love the raw 'tell it as it really is' vibe. Cheers 😁

A fellow insomniac I am.
Once again, you blow my mind with the way you conceptualize songwriting, harmony and do it in a way that feels like, yes, this is what music is!

Punk music has never typically been strong on harmony. LIstening to this one, more's the pity.

It's not very punk to talk about anaphora, but you use it well. You articulate the word 'fucking' in a way that makes it seem appropriate in its own right, rather than an intensifier. Interesting.

And, of course, I enjoy the irony of 'what a beautiful day', especially at the end, where the song just sorta stops giving a fuck and trails off on a sentiment you normally hear shouted from the rooftops. Brilliant.

Your use of harmony is so creative -- one of your strongest musical strengths, in my book. I continue to love the guitar tone. "Sugar in the line the petrol turns to glue" sounds like something form the (beloved) Mountain Goats / John Darnielle playbook. Overall, this feels like an attitude put to music . . . and what an attitude.

Yes! More punk in this Thang! I love your songs. The more one listens the more you hear. It's not just a simple punk tune. Love the Sugar in the line bit. Love the what a beautiful day ending . So cool.

This feel like a song that would be stuck somewhere in a killer mix tape, but that nobody can identify. The kinda song that's live-and-die for like, ten weirdos who've gotten to hear it.

Love the stream of consciousness, the sneer, and the economy and energy of it all. Gets right to the point and drives it home in the tour van.
