Liner Notes

I purposefully didn't want to end with a build up of noise, as I've already done that on several songs and I ended up going a bit disco πŸ˜•

Lyrics

this is my last hurrah
a faded silent star
the world moved on
and left me behind
of all the multitudes
only one i want is you
resplendent in your carmine brocade

there's nothing left to die for
so it might as well be me

this neuronic odyssey
this patchwork parody
could never last
with us in command
a shimmering necropolis
a shrine to our godlessness
is reclaimed
by the creeping plants

there's nothing left to die for
so it might as well be me

If I squint hard enough, that anthemic chorus might not be as beautifully dark as it seems. Either way, I'm lifting up my lighter and swaying. Lovely stuff.

There’s a sort of Soft Cell despair in the delivery but mixed with kind of anthemic vibe of Keane. Lovely arrangement especially that heavily reverbed picked electric guitar.

Oh indeed is dreamy! Love how the suspended in space first verse transitions into that brilliant chorus - that lyric totally made me smile. Double time feel is awesome! Love me a space song

What an ominous intro! It's intense but then breaks out into the beauty of the "There's nothing left.." chorus (lyric aside) - it's quietly euphoric from there! Getting real Interpol vibes. I must admit I was curious how this was going to turn into a disco, but it really works!

I really enjoyed this on lots of different levels - great voice, great production, loved the lyrics - nice one.

I should have known that the song would belie my expectations based on your tags. It's dreamy in the darkest way, and disco as if somebody hung the dj, and it's great in it's own way. Lots of expansive sounds and interesting rattles. I love the reverse feedback bit at 2:20.

Oh, nice. Love the vibe and the lyrics. Also like how your voice sits in the mix.

Really good! The production is full of great and interesting artistic choices. Really memorable chorus. What you call the disco part gave me strong Arcade Fire vibes, which is always a good thing.

The way this opens up into the chorus with those dreamy guitar arpeggios is so good! Lovely melody too. Some really gorgeous production flourishes, the noisy backwardsy guitar bit before the final chorus is very cool. And hell yeah to the disco coda!

The endless barren open expanse of the first two thirds' soundscape needed to be filled with something, so why not dance? Honestly, the disco coda could have gotten even more house-y for me, kind of adding twisted irony to the ideation of the refrain.

Oooh goddamn, what a great slow burn of a build up you've got here in the beginning. The move into the "nothing left to die for" melody is so good -- feels like it's going to make a standard shift to major and then it goes all Bond theme with those 7 chords (...right? :hide:)

Lots of great lines in here! The first verse gives me some Norma Desmond vibes, and then it all gets even more epic and cinematic in the next verse -- that necropolis/godlessness couplet is *chef's kiss* so damn good. And the lyrics on the refrain are really excellent, too. Also, your voice sounds so good on this track!

And the switch into the disco outro! I don't hate it!! I love it, in fact?
