Everything Is Terrible All Of The Time!

Liner Notes

here's a new one. it’s a title i've been thinking about for a week or so. i worked it all out today. and the fact that i’m wearing the same sweatpants in all three of my videos feels appropriate.

i really want to write funny songs, but this is the best i can do at the moment, with america collapsing and all. i hope it at least comes off a little bit tongue in cheek.

i played this one live as a one man band. octave pedal for bass, roland one pads for drums, and my jazzmaster into a Rat clone distortion pedal.

this is definitely at least just a little bit influenced by the ramones. hard to tell, i know. originally in my head, i envisioned it sounding more like devo, but when i started playing and singing, it came out way less new wave.

Lyrics

everything is terrible
all of the time

i look around
for something good
i look around
now
it’s getting worse

everything is terrible
all of the time

i look around
for something good
and all i found
was more bad news
i look around
nowwwwwwww
it’s getting worse

oh no oh no
oh no oh no

This was entertaining to watch, listen to, and sympathize with. Nailing a take like this takes talent. Superb

Finally someone wrote an anthem for 2025! I hope this gets nominated for a grammy.
Catchy and nice. I like the lower register singing you do a little bit too!

This is terribly funny!

Super catchy punk sound, the tempo changes are cool, good rocking track!

I get that feeling. My “funny punk band” put out a political song this year because we felt like we had no choice. I think the lightness of your style helps counter the darkness of the message on this one. There’s something blasé in the delivery that helps dampen the fret

Have you heard Wavves?! This reminds me of him. So fun! … I mean terrible. Everything is terrible… except for this song.

simply, catchy, honest, rockin', as i'm sure you already know. i especially dig the heavy, deflated sigh solo at the end.

Perfectly encapsulates how messed up things have gotten. But does it in a fun and catchy as hell rock song. What else is music for? Brilliant stuff

Banging my head to this one. And it makes me laugh. You know, when I have a really bad shift next time, I might really come back to this song. Thank you 🙏

Like this one a lot. The Ramones, yes - also The Dandy Warhols, randomly. The title is a great one sentence manifesto - sometimes a notion crystallises really efficiently like this. That ascending bit towards the close was really ear catching. It didn’t sound Ramoney or anything - it sounded special.

The tongue in cheekiness comes through clear. The ascending chords that periodically show up reflect the despair that inspired the song.

@kembole at around 50 seconds is where i’m speeding up and making all the noise.

on this one there’s no editing, overdubs, or effects added after the fact. everything you hear is how it sounded live. even my vocal effects. my mic is going into a mic mechanic 2 for the slapback delay and reverb.

i think maybe the guitar tone thing you’re hearing might be my bass sound. the guitar signal is split and it’s going into two different channels on my mixer. one channel is the normal guitar sound and one is my guitar into an octave pedal.

other than that, the only other thing i did at the 50 second mark was use the tremolo arm.

is there somewhere i can hear your grind pre song with the similar name? it sounds fun

We made a song with almost the same title five or four years ago. It was a 15 second grindcore song and there wasn't much to say after the first sentence. After covid and everything else this hits differently.
More bad news and it's getting worse.

Btw. what the heck happened to you guitar tone at 0:50? Some editing and you smacked on some extra effects or did you manage to hit some extra pedal there? I'll go for the editing but had to ask.
[avatar]
You capture the mood pretty well I'd say. The speed up is an adequate metaphor for things going to s--t, if that was the intention. I didn't think we'd be at Nazi salutes at the beginning of the year already!

Great song. I hear hints of Nirvana with that Devo and Ramones sound.
[avatar]
Agree with Travis, I’m getting some early devo vibes big time. You’re a legend. I just realized that the Roland pads are not single pads…gotta look it up but I now understand how you have cymbals and then don’t. God I’m dumb lol

Srsly where can I support you? YouTube the place or you have website or something? You are the shit. Need more.

I definitely still hear Devo's influence in your vocals. Overall definitely getting both Ramones and Stooges vibes. Absolutely my favorite era of punk. Killer track my man!
[avatar]
I see you too have been scrolling Bluesky lately 😢 Get that little keyboard you've got leaning up against the Fender amp if you wanna get more Devo :)

It couldn't not be tongue in cheek given your outfit (nice shades dude!) and the jaunty attack on the delivery. But also, everything IS terrible so there is that. The bits where you speed up are utterly awesome. And I spent a lot of the video just admiring your jazzmasters. A little bit of Ramones, but also it's all you.
[avatar]
I mean, you had me at the title, but the song totally delivers on the title's promise. You got the zeitgeist right there! The 'huff' (right description?) at the end is perfect! And great shades too!
