Liner Notes

If J.D. can pretend to have "country roots", I can too.

I hope you enjoy the song!

WHISKEY IN MY TEACUP, BLUES IN MY SOUL

Down the line of my kin,
where the roots run deep,
There’s a story in the soil
that my soul always keeps.
From the dust of the earth,
to where the whiskey barrels roll,
There's a legacy of spirit,
and a blues born in my soul.

CHORUS:
WHISKEY IN MY TEACUP,
BLUES IN MY SOUL
I sip at the history
that the old ones quietly told.
A melody of heartache,
in the chords that they stole,
With WHISKEY IN MY TEACUP,
BLUES IN MY SOUL.

Granddad’s voice at the fireside,
tales tall as the trees,
Of hardships and laughter,
of loving and of grief.
He’d pour a little whiskey
in the good china oh so fine,
And say, "It smooths the edges
of these blues of mine."

CHORUS:
WHISKEY IN MY TEACUP,
BLUES IN MY SOUL
I sip at the history
that the old ones quietly told.
A melody of heartache,
in the chords that they stole,
With WHISKEY IN MY TEACUP,
BLUES IN MY SOUL.

Granddad walked through the valleys,
so shadowed and so cold,
I felt the weight of his woes,
through the stories that he told.
In each drop of his whiskey,
there was fire that was true.
It helped burn away the sorrow,
helped light his sad way through.

Now I'm standing at the crossroads,
with my own heritage clear,
I've listened to the songs
and the spirits of yesteryear.
And now to my own children,
I’ll pass this cup so revered,
And fill them with that wisdom
that will help with their own fears.

CHORUS:
WHISKEY IN MY TEACUP,
BLUES IN MY SOUL
I sip at the history
that the old ones quietly told.
A melody of heartache,
in the chords that they stole,
With WHISKEY IN MY TEACUP,
BLUES IN MY SOUL.

When I saw that title, I just HAD to click on it! This one just rolls along, and I love the way you set up the hook. You tell a good story that's very relatable, and the music and vocals support the message all the way. Nice work. "Work?"

Good song! I love the concept and lyrics a lot. The melody is lovely and it's well performed. Watchlisted!

Another fine song with a brilliant hook although I prefer a mug over a teacup.

Great title, lyric, production and vocals...I would advance JP over JD any day for for honest hokum over total bunkum...

Very beautiful song. Great lyrics with deep meaning, beautiful singing and playing. Fantastic instrumentation. Hypnotic beauty and fresh feel.

Cool title. A nice summary of intergenerational traditions. YOU ALWAYS come up with hooky chorus lines..well done., that's a hard trick to pull off in a song. Well done

Hoping your kids are old enough to drink, otherwise it sounds dangerously like you’re about to offer whiskey to minors in that last verse 😉. Love the tale of traditions passed through generations, very sweetly executed. I’ll be drinking my whiskey in a teacup from now on…

@sbs
The title totally captured me. Great story song - lyrics are exquisite! Sweetly delivered.

that is a terriic chorus with a memorable hook line. and the story you tell of grandpas tales ring true, the music fits perfectly for the feel of the old manas he, whiskey in hand, tranquilly tells the hard luck and happy times stories to the kids,

This is such a catchy, sweet, feel-good number. I do like the idea of passing on this cup, literally and as a metaphor for all the other things passed along. That's quite a chorus. Maybe if JD drank a little more whiskey and a little less Mountain Dew he could chill out a bit

ha, what a fine inter-generational drinking song! Very "Willie Nelson vibes" (ha, maybe a different substance he would pass to the younger generation tho!) -- this is really wonderful, and a great recording as well!
