Nickels and Dimes
Liner Notes
This is a co-write with Darrell Landels from Saskatchewan. He and I have worked on this song on and off. After several months sitting in a drawer, I figured 5090 was a good time to take it back out, polish and trim, then record and post.
Some changes may yet happen, but I think that this post represents a big step towards the finish line.
Lyrics
Up in the morning, feeling barely alive
Get a quick breakfast, then the usual drive
Fight with the traffic, and curse the day
Punch in at work to get my pay
Don't you know we're all working for nickels and dimes
In the cold, the wind or the hot sunshine
On computers, tills and production lines
In the end, we're just working for nickels and dimes
Dust in the throat way down in the mines
Miles from daylight all the time
Fill the carts with muck laden with gold
The boss gets the bonus, we just get old
Don't you know we're all working for nickels and dimes
In the cold, the wind or the hot sunshine
On computers, tills and production lines
In the end, we're just working for nickels and dimes
Flipping burgers each day and cooking fries
Making food for sale while barely alive
No future in sight, no career path
Switching between sadness and wrath
Don't you know we're all working for nickels and dimes
In the cold, the wind or the hot sunshine
On computers, tills and production lines
In the end, we're just working for nickels and dimes
Millionaires in their C-suites
Workers with pennies and lives on repeat
Don't you know we're all working for nickels and dimes
In the cold, the wind or the hot sunshine
On computers, tills and production lines
In the end, we're just working for nickels and dimes
