Howdy, friends! Here's another offering from mine and @mishykatz's EP in a Day project!

Our first song of the day was about a house/relationship/mentality burning down, and the second song we wrote is a rip-roaring sea shanty, so we wanted the third song we wrote to be the second one chronologically in the narrative of the EP. "Brick by Brick" is about the hopefulness of building something up from scratch.

Lyrics

Found a little piece of land some miles off the coast
Just a little patch of dirt, nothing much to boast

A place where we can try to build a home
A place where we don’t have to be alone

Brick by brick, build me up
Lay the foundation so we’re never in a rut
The frames and the siding, and a new frame of mind
When our ideals collide, we can level to the line
Brick by brick by brick
Brick by brick by brick

From breaking down to breaking ground, we found a place to stay
Ain’t no use in looking back, we’ve already seen that way

Here is where we’re going to start anew
A place where there’s nothing we can’t do

Brick by brick, build me up
Lay the foundation so we’re never in a rut
The frames and the siding, and a new frame-of-mind
When our ideals collide, we can level to the line
Brick by brick by brick
Brick by brick by brick

We could run into hard times
Just like we ^were before
But we’ve got everything we need, not looking for much more
Than this…

Brick by brick, build me up
Lay the foundation so we’re never in a rut
The frames and the siding, and a new– frame-of-mind
When our ideals collide, we can level– to the line
Brick by brick by brick
Brick by brick by brick
Brick by brick by brick

I like the melody and the way you sing it so much. Also the way you let it take the time it takes. It feels like a song from the early 90s when I was listening to Edie Brickell and Suzanne Vega and Ten Thousand Maniacs and Tori Amos. I think it’s Suzanne Vega that it feels closest to.

This is a wonderful song building a house and building a relationship have many things in common. The chorus is very catchy and memorable. Lovely collaboration

This is a great vocal, especially on the chorus. I really like this melody a lot. And I really like the story arc you're using to make the EP. Such a great project.

well this is no3 for me they are all good and different. i like the use of pause which really adds to the effect. getting started is often hard.

A nice catchy tune reminiscent of a feel-good song by Pete Seeger.
