Street Pastors

Liner Notes
I met some people on the streets of Shrewsbury (England) who explained they were volunteers who helped out people in trouble in the evenings/nights when the town's nightlife was busiest. I was impressed by what they did and I promised to write a song about them. This is it!

Lyrics
(Am) Saturday Night and the youth of the town
Are (G) out to have some fun
But (Am) fearful scenes are about to go down
Before the (F) rising of the (G) sun
(F) Pills and booze can soon combine
Into a (Am) heavy dangerous mix
And the (G) wolves who seek to fleece the sheep
Will be (F) up to (G) their old (Am) tricks
Street (C) Pastors – (Am) out on the streets
Street (C) Pastors – (Am) Looking out for lost sheep
Street (C) Pastors – (Am) Offering them aid
Street (C) Pastors – (F) guiding (G) those who’ve (Am) strayed
The (Am) Wolves move in, their prey they’ve found,
They’ll burst the (G) party goers’ bubble
But some (Am) Guardian Angels are hovering round
To help (F) those who’ve got into (G) trouble
“Are (F) you alright?” they ask some teen
Who’s (Am) staggering down the street, in tears
Some (G) comforting words as they intervene
To (F) quickly (G) calm their (Am) fears
CHORUS
(Am) A taxi home for some lost soul,
(G) Help to find a friend
A (Am) listening ear to hear a tale unfold
May help a (F) nightmare to (G) end
(F) They may offer some first aid
To a (Am) black eye that is swollen
Or a (G) phone call for a lass afraid
Now her (F) mobile (G) phone has been (Am) stolen
(Em) Heroes and heroines – Un(Am)paid volunteers
They’ve been (Em) patrolling their city streets
For (Am) over twelve years
Christi(F)anity in action – (Am) Deeds, not easy talk
These (G) laudable street pastors
(F) Really (E) walk the (Am) walk
(Am) They offer women a small device
To a(G)void a Mickey Finn
Or a (Am) simple test, that is precise,
To check what (F) someone might have put (G) in
(F) Or just a bottle of water
To (Am) ward off hydration
And (G) all they do, they offer
Without (F) judgement or (G) discrimin(Am)ation
CHORUS
