Voyage 2 --The Doldrums' Luminous Night

#cruiseship #malaguena #piano #instrumental #quiet

Somewhere in the Pacific Doldrums approaching the Equator: mild breeze, no seas running to speak of, moon has set but the night remains luminous even though only the odd planet and very bright star can be made out: the rest are diffused through the combination of humidity and high cloud.

Inevitably I think of Albeniz's "Memories of the Voyage" and am immediately transfixed, as i have been all my teenage and adult life, by his lovely Malaguena, which I last played in concert in 1999 (!) Equally inevitably, there are a lot of points in common--not quite stolen, not quite--in this short sea-born piece.

Wow, another great piece. I am enjoying this voyage!

A sailing ship in the doldrums, tiny waves lapping against her side. The Mediterranean sailors, far from home on the other side of the world, are listless. The sun beats down and there is little breeze and their thoughts turn to "why on Earth am I doing this? Is this the adventure I left our "Mare Nostrum" for?"

All this and more I felt on this short journey.

Just along for the ride! Very enjoyable it is! Closest I will get to a sea voyage!

Very creative. A journey indeed on the high seas. I can feel the rise and fall in the music , like that of a fluctuating sea. Moments of tension and drama. Very nicely done.

This is great. I listened twice in succession. Excellent piano. If you are going to 'borrow' then why not choose Albeniz? Because of the nautical theme it reminds me a little of the music from the start of Fellini's 'And the ship sails on' but without the maleguena influence

It's too short. Albeniz took us on a 30 minute voyage, and while your brief piece gives us the feeling of an ocean voyage, I for one would like to experience the entire trip. Besides that litttle quibble, the piece does capture in three minutes the essence of what Albeniz gave us in 30 minutes. Quite a feat in itself.
