Pronouns: Haven't found pronouns that fit me. They/them will do.
I don't go in knowing what sort of songs I'll be writing, and I usually come out with a pretty #eclectic mix. I write #lyrics and #melody, sometimes with a little #vocal-harmony. Or I make #chiptune songs using #beepbox. I don't play any instruments, and haven't had much luck combining electronic backing tracks with #vocals. I get lonely if not singing together with someone else's singing or playing.
Music influences: As a small child I listened to the #oldies station, #folk music for #children, and #broadway. I was also taught a lot of #oldtime #americana types of songs in the oral tradition. I spent a lot of time squished into the backseat of a non-air-conditioned car with my siblings, and the best way to keep things harmonious was with literal harmony. The go-to was usually a #round, but we also enjoy a #free-for-all where everyone sings different songs at the same time, sometimes joining in with what someone else is singing or riffing off it if one song reminds you of another. In the late '90s and early 2000s I was listening to the #alternative station. I was also in several choirs during that time, so I learned a lot of traditional #latin-language #choral music, a lot of #vocaljazz, and a bit of #barbershop, #gospel, #experimental sheet music, and all kinds of other things. My grandfather introduced me to #gilbert-and-sullivan. Around 2008 I joined the steampunk subculture, and became a founding member of my local steampunk group, so naturally I had to look into #steampunk music. These days I find music through the internet: if there's a genre that sounds interesting from the description or that songs I already like belong to, I listen to it to see what I think. I love #filk, #punk, #metal, #celtic, #nerdcore, #arenarock, #dark-musicbox. Especially genres that combine traditional (folk, #classical, #music-hall) with modern (#hard_rock, #techno), like #electro-swing, #chap-hop, #celtic-punk.

Wow, I've never considered being forced to come up with everything in a dream. I always hoped lucid dreaming would be, like, "I want to hang out with dragons!" and then the dragons do stuff of their own accord...

Hmmm... "darkly lit" could imply there is also a "lightly dark". 🤔

Yeah, I'm getting some value from the YouTube channels. Particularly How To Write Songs. Thanks. 😀

Hi, I'm glad I'm not the only rural NorCal person in FAWM! It sounds like you are describing Auburn or Nevada City area. You have a lot of interesting musical influences that overlap with mine. The non-intersecting part is that I am too old for punk. But maybe we could collab on something. Happy FAWMing!
I first read about lucid dreaming in the context of astral travelling. Not sure about your spiritual bent (if any), but my goal back then was mostly to experience awesome magicky stuff in dreams, then possibly develop a spirituality from the astral plane.
Never got anywhere with it. Eh...
