Brilliant Eyes (for Mei)
by @dhiatt
Liner Notes
I've had this idea kicking around for a while. We adopted a Siamese cat last year who was so incredibly shy she just hid in a box in the bathroom for weeks. She would only be active for short periods at night after things got quiet. I used to hang out with her, waiting for her to get used to me, and when she emerged her blue eyes were startling to behold. So, it's a song about hope and faith that someone can come out of their shell.
I hadn't done an acoustic onetake before, so this seemed like a good candidate. I don't practice playing and singing at the same time often, so it's humbling to record my fumblings (hey, good rhyme). But here it is, in the spirit of FAWM (take that @timfatchen 😛 ).

Mei's doing well, by the way. :)
Lyrics
Spent the nighttime hours waiting
Just to catch a glimpse
And I shiver to think of you
Huddled in the darkness
Life outside’s the great unknown
And it’s safer in the dark
The worlds a scary place
We don’t have to go far
But I know that day is comin’
When you blow us all away
Don’t feel the pressure
Doesn’t have to be today
But underneath the moonlit skies
You’ll dazzle us all
With your brilliant eyes
When you came to us
You were too shy lift your head
Darling it ain’t a crime
To never leave your bed
We only get glimpses
Just a whisper of you
Just a hint of smile
Is what gets us through
Have to remind myself
To take it day by day
I know it isn’t easy
To hide your cares away
But now I know that day is comin’
When you blow us all away
Don’t feel the pressure
Doesn’t have to be today
But underneath the moonlit skies
You’ll dazzle us all
With your brilliant eyes

I pictured a baby for some reasons. "Have to remind myself / To take it day by day" has a whole different meaning then. But it's still about being up to the job.
Love and care make the world a place worth living in. Oh, and songs of course !
