After All This Time

Liner Notes

Felt like writing a cheesy pop ballad. This one's inspired by Jane Austen's Persuasion. #books #pop

Lyrics

Unexpected doesn't even come close
To seeing you again, not even close
Years passed, an eternity and no time at all

Like a ship out at sea
I'm lost, I thought I'd be free
And I can't see how we
How we could still be
How we could still be

So much to say but I don't have the words
I hope you find the words tonight

After all this time
I want you to be mine
I missed the chance I got

After all this time
You're back but still not mine
This time I know you're not

Whatever they say
I'm going my way
And there's no stopping me tonight

All the things they said turned out to be lies, every word
They said you weren't right and I never asked why
Thought them kind, thought them wise

Like a leaf on a wave
I let myself drift away
Guess I was too afraid
Afraid I might break
Afraid I might break

I should be above it, shouldn't hold a grudge
But I'm not in control tonight

After all this time
I want you to be mine
I missed the chance I got

After all this time
You're back but still not mine
This time I know you're not

Whatever they say
I'm going my way
And there's no stopping me tonight

I've got to try
I've got to try
To make it right with you

After all this time
I need you to be mine
I'll take the chance I've got

After all this time
You're back and you'll be mine
it's time we both forgot

Whatever they say
We're going our way
And there's no stopping us tonight

The keyboard bits remind me of Ed Sheeran (I promise that's not an insult, even though it sounds like one!). It's very poppy, which is what you were going for. Your voice, now I listen more carefully, does evoke the '90s/'00s solo singer vibe.

That tinkly riff immediately caught my attention. All the instrumentation is great, in fact. I've been meaning to read Persuasion for ages, maybe I should get around to that... your song makes it seem intriguing.

Delightful song! Awesome choice of instruments and sounds. You sound like you're having fun singing it, too.

Great stuff. It's got a definite 90s indie pop vibe to it, but maybe that's just because that's my era and what I know well. I like the wordy verses with the slower more soaring choruses.

Love the cadence!! Love the vibes accompaniment. Just an unusual melody..in great way. I can relate to the lyrics!! I bet alot of folks can, so well written and performed!!

Amazing energy and cheesy as hell, I love it! Great choice of instrumentation, it made me laugh more than once which i didn't expect reading the lyrics... Thanks for that.
