Lyrics

This was the last day that I thought about you
Throwing out the papers with the last remnants of you
Here is the problem, I can't find the time
To find two different words and make them rhyme
But you wouldn't have cared about that anyway
If you read the things I had to say

Where would we be with you? (Ahh)
Where would we be with you?

This is the morning, it's the morning
Where we're pulling out our hair
It's the morning, it's the morning
You would have wished that you were there
Having breakfast on bed, cause the sunlight makes us scared
But it doesn't matter, it doesn't matter anyway

Where would we be with you? (Ahh)
Where would we be with you?

This was the first day I thought of you
The birds were singing and the sky was blue
I had one thought on my mind, I had a vision
This life's been great so far, but one thing's missing

Where would we be with you? (Ahh)
Where would we be with you?
Where would we be with you?
Where would we be with you?

Oh boy, this packs a punch. The title line is just brilliant, and you built out exactly the kind of story around it that it calls for. Really nicely done.

I like the way you tell the story. I think the obsession may reappear from time to time. I wrote one that went "100 days, 1-0-1, day 102, I love to count the days since I last thought of you."

Taking that phrase Where would we be without you and negating it hits hard. There's this kind of steady-state denial in the verses with just that little squeak from the bottomless loss in the chorus. Imagining a chipper melody on the verses opening into suspended angst in the chorus.
