&%*$ 'Em All, Let's Go

Liner Notes

Bit of a throwaway Weezer-by--numbers. Based on a riff I came up with in August last year, no-frills. Sorry the guitars are slightly out of tune - I tried Melodyning them back in but it sounded even worse, lol.

Vocal is quick and dirty. Just a demo. I think the verse melody's actually in too low of a range to work with that kind of loud energy coming from everything else. Might strip it back a bit if it ever gets past the demo stage.

I've also mixed the vocal way too loud - missed the compression in the latter part of the song, but hey, it's just a demo.

This is not part of the concept album. It's just a dumb song about doing dumb things for dumb reasons.

Anyway...

Drums: Just Add Drums (Kontakt)
Bass: Punkbass (Kontakt)
Guitars: An old Les Paul knockoff through an Orange Crush into Rode + 57 mics (some with Big Muff Pi)

Lyrics

i don't wanna be me, you don't wanna be you
why don't we get married?
you can take on my name, i can do just the same
why don't we get married?

there must be a reason this won't work
but what the hell, let's go

i don't wanna be here, you don't wanna be there
why don't we get married?
you can take on my face, i can swap into your place
we're married

there must be a reason this won't work
there must be a part that we're missing

but i don't care, no i don't care
but i don't care what the logic says
so what the hell, let's go

so what the hell, let's go
so what the hell, let's go
yeah fuck 'em all, just fuck 'em all
and let's go
yeah, let's go

there must be a reason this won't work
but what the hell, let's go

Huge guitar sound, catchy punk riff. What’s not to love?

Turn it up to eleven! Wonderful punk energy, and some clever hooks in there. I love the vocals. Reminds me of Ozzie "Bark at the Moon" which I mis-heard the first few times as &%*$ 'Em All. The lyrics are great: "...let's get married" captures the nihilism of bad spontaneous decisions. I want to hear this in a bar with bigger Marshall stacks than the room can support!

Nice aggressive corrosive punk feel; not synth-era Devo, certainly, but it has the raw intensity of their very early work, and sound great!

the guitars are awesome on this! the riff is sweet and the fuzz tone is perfect. really nailed that early weezer fuzziness. i like the vocals. i don't think the vocals are in too low of a range. not for listening, anyway. but maybe it will be hard to really belt it out live. either way, it was a fun listen.

Love the energy you got going on here. The guitars sound great and lyrics/vocal are on point, demo or not! I always remember to tune the guitars about 2 minutes after a really good take, and you have the 'will it be ok?' conversation with yourself, and the answer's almost always, 'yep, it's fine'!

A recipe for relational disaster makes for a great listen! I really like the concept for this one, it was a fun listen. You have a lot of genre range, thanks for sharing! 🐸
