Liner Notes

#acoustic Written loosely about something specific, tho the actual story is of course a bit more complicated and a bit messier. Still gets at a few things I wanted to say about the situation. (and no, the story concerns others, not me directly)

Recorded the guitar and then recorded a vocal. Kept it simple for now.

Lyrics

You grew up religion A / Your kid’s now religion B
You’re thinking it’s the end of the world
That’s not what I see

Kids are gonna do what they’re gonna do
You did it yourself back in the day
Every generation shocks the previous one
It usually works out in the long run

The customs and holidays you know
Your grandchildren might not celebrate
But all those books if they’re good for something
They tell us not to hate

No angels anoint you, when your kids disappoint you
It’s a story as old as the hills
Time to suck it up and have some grace
You can’t live your life in that angry place

There is one exception / To this rule of mine
If the kid becomes a MAGA trump supporter
That might just cross the line

It’s a question of morality/ And who you are down deep
You can pray to any god you choose
Just don’t worship the orange creep

You grew up religion A/your kid is religion B
You’re thinking it’s a tragedy / that’s not what I see

This is brilliant. Especially love the line “no angels anoint you when your children disappoint you” … the twist at the end was surprising and well done. The line “it’s a question of morality and what’s down deep” cuts hard. Love it!

Great message. I love the line "But all those books if they’re good for something/They tell us not to hate." And the twist about the orange creep I did not see coming. Perfect! Great melody, the guitar line sounds full and engaging. I love the song!

A very apt and timely piece of social commentary. It's surprising to see the divine right of kings making a horrible comeback, especially in a country that initially rejected the monarchy so roundly.

I remember, many years back, you were writing songs with lyrics like 'Donald Trump you narcissistic demagogue from hell', and there was a period where I believed that such songs may no longer be necessary. *sigh*

I always like a good counter to "kids these days" narratives, and you do a good job here. Catchy tune, too, and that guitar sounds great. The vast majority of people do not really follow politics, and their ignorance is vast. Political junkies tend to think supporters of particular politicians have strong ideological reasons for doing so. This, I find, is not the case. Personally, I think Trump is a moral abomination Still, I know lots of MAGA types who would not fall into this category

I love the sentiment of this. You are always promoting acceptance and inclusion….. and THAT GUY. Really, you have quite a perspective and I enjoy hearing it in your songs. Your rhythm structure was really cool! I am learning so it’s very helpful to see what you do. Very well done!

i share your insight that each generation shocks the previous one and for most of the song you lay out some apt examples. regarding my third world song, id like to live in new york too, but the exclusionary capitalistic society prevents it.

I dig the guitar playing. And I really like the timing of the vocals-- fits well with the groove of the guitar. Well done! (And I like the dig at MAGA-- bonus!)
