Ask Me How I Know

Liner Notes

Inspired by this morning's skirmish to write with leftovers, I pulled a couple of lines together from my current songwriting notebook and ended up with this #lyricsonly draft about tumultuous times. Typing it in here to get it down, may work on it more another day.

EDITED to add that I did a big edit of these lyrics and have updated them below. This is clearly evolving fast.

Lyrics

There’s fire flowing everywhere
Just driving down the boulevard
And despots in their deckchairs think
They’re catching flies with crowbars
Another bit of sky falls clear
Another day that lasts a year
Say less, say it more quietly
Who'll get lost out here to find me?

I’m behind the windshield, hiding
In my car
Take it too far
Reach in through the window if the
Handle sticks
You're my fix
We've both got scars, let's go too hard,
Ask me how I know it's safe to fall apart

My heart’s out on the metal tray
You're gingham and I'm calico
Dissect the things I said today
We'll eat each other up, you know
Our choices avalanche like rocks
I hear the ticking stutter, stop
Don’t look, or put your goggles on
Here comes the brightest dawn

BRIDGE
It's all tumbling down
What is sin and what is sick?
Inside and around
Magnets drift and magnets stick

I’m fumbling now,
As if the worlds in spin
Some thundercloud
-- You ripped a hole where you fell in

I’m behind the windshield, hiding
In my car
Take it too far
Reach in through the window if the
Handle sticks
You're my fix
We've both got scars, let's go too hard,
Ask me how I know it's safe to fall apart

So much imagry in this. I like it when lyrics leave space for intensity of interpretation and can speak on many levels. Nice.- Char

Some very good lines, I like the magnets line but maybe Repel/Stick works better there. Love thundercloud/ ripped a hole where you fell in. Great imagery. Good song. Hope it gets to demo 😎

I love your word play. A lot of nice imagery. The simplicity of the chorus hits hard.

So many great lines here and so many great images. I like songs that hint at things without preaching, and you nail it here. Catching files with crowbars! Dang, that's great
