Fire in Kildare

Liner Notes

And here’s another one for Brigid!

In Kildare, Brigid’s sacred fire was tended by her priestesses since pre-christian times. The Christian nuns took over the tradition. The flame was only extinguished when all the monasteries and convents were forcefully dissolved by the Protestsnts in the 16th century. But the fire has been lit again in 1993s by an order of Brigidine Sisters who returned to the place of their ancient founder, St. Brigid. They have kept the flame burning uninterrupted ever since.

Their beautiful convent, Solas Bhride, is a place where people of all kinds of faith paths gather to exchange ideas, to join forces in order to keep peace and protect the environment, and to pray together.
The Sisters are very open to the fact that Brigid is venerated as a Goddess, too.

In 2019, I had the joy to make a quick visit to Kildare and ever since I’ve been longing to return.

In my song, it is deliberately left open whether it addresses the Saint or the Goddess. Peace between the religions is the only way to go forward in these difficult times …

Thank you, dearest @sentense, for adding your #cajon magic!

Lyrics

Brigid lit a fire in the land,
her daughters passed it on from hand to hand.
Her love, her grace, her healing, her justice to declare,
Brigid lit a fire, a fire in Kildare.
Her love, her grace her healing, her justice to declare,
Brigid lit a fire, a fire in Kildare.

And they tended to the sacred light,
keeping it ablaze through day and night.
Gifting it to others in pain and in despair,
Brigid’s blessed fire, her fire from Kildare.
They gifted it to others in pain and in despair,
Brigid’s blessed fire, her fire from Kildare.

Evil came and quenched the holy flame.
Not a thing would ever be the same.
But hope and patience lingered, the memory of a flare,
the memory of a fire, a fire in Kildare.
Hope and patience lingered, the memory of a flare,
the memory of a fire, a fire in Kildare.

Tides have turned, the flame is lit again,
sheltered from the storm and from the rain.
Burning for the people, the people everywhere,
Brigid’s sacred fire, her fire in Kildare.
Burning for the people the people everywhere,
Brigid’s sacred fire, her fire in Kildare.

Sounds wonderfully rustic and folky... which I suppose fits with the topic!

Wow! Great track and great lyrics. Love the percussion too, truly brings it all together. And such a cool backstory too!

This is beautiful, both lyric and music and the percussion adds that touch that keeps the attention in (I must build the cajun I've been intending to for ages, @sentense, you've convinced me) . Karan, this is powerful singing. The story is uplifting.

Ach, es ist immer wieder schön, wenn ihr zusammen Musik macht. Dieser Song hat eh schon so eine tolle, lebendige Melodie, mit der Cajon kommt da gleich noch mehr Schwung rein.

I learn something new every song that I listen to of yours. Thanks for being so thorough with your liner notes! The song is a perfect fit for the lyrics and sounds like it’s a song that’s been sung for decades. Excellent!
