Liner Notes

This is one entry in my #apophatic journey, inspired by the concept of the Dark Night of the Soul. To partake from the fruit of the tree, knowing the duality of good and evil, is to banish oneself from paradise, introduce fear and pay for failure with eyes being blinded and exposed to the light.

Personal spirituality, #shadow work and negative #theology at play here. Musically, I've been looking for something to marry a #polymeter bass and lead without necessarily relying on chords for a big instrumental. I've also wanted to employ this somehow:

Eb - Bbdim/Db - D

That's where paradoxical #mysticism helped me finish this write.

#DarkNightOfTheSoul #mystical #synth #vocal #electronic

Lyrics

Blessed darkness
The goddamned light
In the time that we knew all things
Did nothing right

Once I knew evil
I banished myself from paradise
The blessed darkness
And the goddamned light
Once I knew evil
I banished myself from paradise
The blessed darkness
The forsaken light

Once I knew evil
I feared for myself and my own kind
Once I knew evil
I banished myself from paradise
Once I knew evil
I paid for my sins with my own eyes

The God-forsaken light

I really did not expect to see the tag "apophatic" so of course I had to check this out! A great lamentation of The Fall and our suffering in consciousness. You are not alone. I went through a dark night myself a few years ago and it basically inducted me into FAWM which was a real help in getting through it. The lyrics are great and a necessary reaction to shallow light-focused New Age ideas imo. I like what you are doing music theoretically, it sounds wonderful and very apt for the theme. The vocal FX remind me so much of Cynic's album Traced in Air, which is a great vibe for this as it creates a sense of distress. The drop on "god-forsaken light" is very well executed. Great stuff!

I came at this knowing nothing about your approach or philosophy and now I'm in a bit of a wikipedia rabbit-hole with it all. Fascinating.
I love the lyrics and the soundscape you've woven for them. It's the most black metal song without guitars I've heard in a long time... don't suppose you are a fan of the band Ulver, by any chance?

I really appreciate these lyrics and the way you’ve delivered them. Love when that instrumental hits, really conjures up the godforsaken light.
