Liner Notes

For #ukuleleday I wrote this somber ode to unfurling travesties. May you be well!

Lyrics

I was told to write a song
And I do everything I'm told
If only following orders
Made me feel like I was bold

Four steps to the right
Followed by four more
I'm threatening to make it an even dozen
As we hit the floor

They said dance
And I put on my party pants
Perfect for stepping over geese
Just like ores
And world wars
Good things come in threes

I was told that I'd belong
But my friends have all gone away
They told me I'd be joining them soon
On the shores of Guantanamo Bay

A far cry from my home
I gave all I had to this cause
All I had to do was vote
But these next steps give me pause

They said dance
And I put on my party pants
Perfect for stepping over geese
Just like ores
And world wars
Good things come in threes

This is intended as a compliment, but I don’t think I’ve ever been as unnerved by a ukulele song. The “world wars, good things come in threes” lyric is chilling. Really great song and vocal performance.

Really fun doubling/panning with the uke there, my ears are having a great time. That fourth stanza, though. Wow. This is a great song.

Thank you for writing a sad song on the uke. Hit hard.

Oof. Yeah. This.

Damn... I see uke - I'm looking for happy/jaunty..
This is a wonderful meditation on where we are, and where some are trying to lead us. On a most (for me) unexpected instrument - which only added to the experience

the feeling for this one was an overwhelming sense of haunting, then I see that's how @becon open there comment.

This has a power greater than the sum of it's parts, and I'm all here for it,

Haunting! Very cool way of approaching a very difficult subject. Nice delivery and a cool and freaky way of including the ukulele in a way most people wouldn't expect. The "perfect for stepping over geese" took me a minute and then hit me like a brick.

Oh goodness this song! I love this perspective and hope poeple start waking up before it is too late. These certainly are very trying times and things are getting scary. It is lovely to hear your vocals over the uke - lots of room for them to shine. I feel the despair and emotion in the melody and your vocal delivery. Really nicely done.
