Liner Notes

"The early bird catches the worm," some say. "Oh yeah?" others say, "Well the second mouse gets the cheese."

I think I'm more of a second mouse than an early bird. As I explain here in this bit of #folk with an 8 string baritone #ukulele and a tenor ukulele overdub or two. #fuc

This was meant to be a metaphor for something, and I think it's still there but it sort of drifted a bit. Make of it what you will. It's just a song, that's all.

Lyrics

[C][F]
[G][C]

The [C]slow and steady [F]tortoise
[C]Always beats the [G]hare
[C]If you snooze you [F]lose, they say
You [C]know I think that's [G]fair

But [C]even so I'll [F]take another
[C]Half an hour in [G]bed
[F]I'll be glad to [Em]follow
And [C]you can forge a[G]head

It's the [F]early bird that [G]gets the tasty [C]worm
But I [F]know that it's o[G]kay to wait my [C]turn
I'll [F]keep a healthy [G]distance from the [Em]ones who try to [Am]lead
Just [Dm*]like the second [G*]mouse that got the [C]cheese

[C][F]
[G][C]

I [C]see you are so [F]eager
To [C]burst out of the [G]gate
You [C]latch on to the [F]promise when
You [C]get that sniff of [G]bait

[C]What could go [F]wrong you say?
No [C]hesitance, no [G]doubt!
And [F]I'll be right be[Em]hind you
To [C]see how things pan [G]out

It's the [F]early bird that [G]gets the tasty [C]worm
But I [F]know that it's o[G]kay to wait my [C]turn
And I'll [F]think about the [G]promises I [Em]do and don't be[Am]lieve
Just [Dm*]like the second [G*]mouse that got the [C]cheese

[F][G][C]
[F][G][C]
[F][G][Em][Am]
[Dm][G][C]

It's the [F]early bird that [G]gets the tasty [C]worm
But I [F]know that it's o[G]kay to wait my [C]turn
[F]I don't want to [G]sleepwalk into [C]things I didn't [Am]see
Dont [F]want to let my [G]guard down and be [C]easily de[Am]ceived
So [F]let 'em clear the [G]danger so we're [Em]free to have our [Am]peace
Just [Dm*]like the second [G*]mouse that got the [C]cheese

Just [Dm*]like the second [G*]mouse that got the [C]cheese

I’m with you. Who wouldn’t prefer cheese to a worm? And to wait for a tested version instead of the beta?

I've noticed that nobody talks about the early worm.

Good rhythm, good words and a nicely clear recording.

This is really fun. I love the strumming rhythm, and I do like the additional instrument. It adds some extra flavor. I'd honestly never heard the expression about the mouse and cheese, but it makes a lot of sense. And bolsters justification for my not being a go-getter! Much appreciated. 😁

@gmcgath yes, that's one of the overdubbed tenor ukes. Not sure I like the effect now I listen back, but I suppose I'll be coming back to it if I decide to keep the song anyway.

I think I am a combo possibly the first mouse but wave the second mouse through! Nice little solo enjoyed that! I love them! Very enjoyable song

Just like the second mouse, the second ukulele adds an extra dimension to the song. Good melody with a good bounce to the delivery.

I love this! I love the lyrical whimsy, such a fun little bop.

Oh I really like this. It moves along so nicely at a fun tempo. I can hear a harmony in my head for the early bird refrain lines. Keep on writing!

That assumes, of course, that the obvious trap is the only one...

Interesting effect in the instrumental bridge. Is that the overdub you were talking about?
