Liner Notes

Well, how about that, life inspiring art? I was just trying to change the oil on my mother-in-law's car and I can't get the oil drain plug loose. Whoever did it before me appears to have overtightened and even put in the wrong bolt size. Definitely a metaphor for dealing with what's come before, whether or not it was because of you - it's now up to you.

Lyrics

My timing chain is rattling
My oil pump is clogged
Transmission failed, my messages are drying up
Is it time to scrap what we've been working on?

These are bigger questions
But they're not just suggestions

I'm running dry
Not run and drive
I'm broken down, hazards flashing
On the roadside, I'm running dry

Mechanic isn't picking up
Can't ignore it anymore,
The grinding sound is louder than the stereo
Do I have to fix this one alone?

These are bigger questions
But they're not just suggestions

I'm running dry
Not run and drive
I'm broken down, hazards flashing
On the roadside, I'm running dry

SOLO

I'm running dry
Not run and drive
I'm broken down, hazards flashing
On the roadside, I'm running dry

I'm running dry
I'm running dry
I'm running dry
I'm running dry

Wow John. I can feel such a live feel to this...emotive automotive! This style falls on the side of a blueys-rock ?? . BTW I feel your pain

Wowwww what a GREAT demo!! Love that bass. You're so good at prechoruses and hooks are always so exciting. "Do I have to fix this one alone?" scratches a very specific itch I can't pinpoint.

Good lyrics and that's a great guitar solo. Strong work all around!

Thematically, this is garage rock! Musically, I don't know my genres well enough. Nice composition, great use of the analogy.

Oh I really dig where you went with this! The fourth line is already a gut punch...and wow, complete with a yearning guitar solo!!

@youraveragejoe - I think at this point replacing the oil pan might be easier than getting the drain plug out. It's a horrible design on this 2014 Chevy Cruz. And thank you! My secret to playing guitar like me is to have very few friends during your formative years and instead isolate yourself with your instruments. Easy! 😀

Time for a new oil pan? :')

The metaphors you used are a feeling I can relate to, but all we need are new gaskets and some synthetic? Or something like that.

Really impressive skirmish! I wish I could play guitar like you.

man this is a cool song. so awesome that you took changing the oil in a car and turned it into this. very catchy and fun

Strong lyrics and a good groove. Definitely worth the challenge! I think you can put that into a real good song

Love it John! Great guitar tones and absolutely love the Bass starting the Solo section. Different vibe but reminds me of Fleetwood Mac "The chain"! Honestly amazed that bass into guitar solo hasn't been heard more. Enjoyed this a lot!

It's nice when things come together in the universe like that. I like the guitar solo.

Great production and the lyrics are both simple and deep. Great job!

@kayo
Wow! Nice track. I'm impressed how many instruments you got down in an hour! Loving the twinkly lead guitar. (also greetings from a fellow Minneapolitan!)

There's nothing like taking situations and examples from real-life and putting them in our art. Very nice.
