During my 14-songs-in-a-day feast, I started pulling from the Bad Song Club prompt box to get inspiration, and this one was "the peril of choice." I remarked in the slack chat that it took me 4 decades to finally write a song with the Pachelbel Canon chords.

Lyrics

if we were omniscient
could see the paths laid out for us
behind each door, no mystery
just certainty, splendiferous
but we are tethered to this plane
and to this pain we are inured
we cannot have it every way
a choice is made, a path assured

but what of what could never be
and what might have been
if we knew the outcome
would we do it all again

the information that we claim
to use to our benefit
is incomplete, but all the same
we do all we can with it
and every moment is the best
that we can ever hope to do
and then we lie awake at night
and wonder if that’s really true

decision stems the tide
every time we decide
more options disappear
until the last choice is clear

So good! The beginning sounded like Pachelbel, but then it took a life of its own! Beautiful message in the song and in the delivery!

Lovely and wistful. It's sort of just making a statement and letting the listener figure it out.

What a wholesome and sweet tune. It's a swayer

A charming song and using the Pachelbel chords without being super noticeable - a neat trick!

While I certainly have thoughts on the subject matter of the song, as they start out with, "Well, first I don't believe in time," I'll just stop right there. 😉 It's not really the place for that sort of discussion.

It's a lovely song. I'm sure it rings true for more people than not.

So familiar, filled with hard won wisdom. This is a keeper.

I was waltzing in my studio chair (on casters) to this.
I think that if we had access to a time machine, so as to remain who we are, we would need to ensure our past self relived exactly what we did the first time round in order to ensure we became who we are today. We are the product of pour reactions to past experiences and the lessons we learned from them.

Pretty song. Nice strumming. Vocals are crystal clear. The song has a calming effect. Love it.
