After Midnight

Liner Notes

@mctown and @gm7 sent me these fun lyrics earlier in the summer and… well, I kind of sat on them for ages. Sorry guys!! Anyway, we got there in the end. As far as I can remember, the process went something like David and Garry batting lyrics back and forth, I added a few more to fit the melody, and then Garry added some stonking guitar parts over a basic guide track, which I then chucked some horns and vocals onto. I’m just about getting my voice back after a bit of a lurgy, so the vocal’s a little shaky at points. But hopefully you get what we’re going for…

Garry: Gents, is always a pleasure to work with you guys. David T's arrangement and vocals along with David G's lyrics, well let's say, they are the dynamic duo!

Lyrics

All last night I tossed and turned
And this morning all I do is hurt
My buddy called twice to check on me
But a fool like me tries to believe
And..

All it took was that kiss and smile
And you had me going crazy wild

After midnight I was in a daze
After midnight you had me played
After midnight, still glad I stayed
After midnight

Abandoned I felt like tears
but I drank a few of those beers
After lonely days it’s been a week
But dreams don’t end in hide and seek

All it took was that kiss and smile
And you had me going crazy wild

After midnight I was in a daze
After midnight you had me played
After midnight, still glad I stayed
After midnight

Solo

Ask me to do it again… ‘cause I might
Ask me to do it again… ‘cause I might
Ask me to do it again… ‘cause I might
After midnight

After midnight I was in a daze
After midnight you had me played
After midnight, still glad I stayed
After midnight...

Hey man - pretty cool to hear you doing country. Your versatility is a wonder for sure. It doesn't seem like a genre you can't cover...and well. You've got @gm7 making solid impact with the guitar which is a blast to hear and the lyrics are catchy and relatable in many ways. It channels some of Eric Clapton's verses. Nice work, gents.

AI will never spit out anything like this. Three original human talents on the lookout for new inspirations. David had me fooled with that first line. I had never heard him sing like that before, and before that first verse had ended, he was planting his own flag on that territory then went into full on classic david taro mode before returning even more gently into that secons verse like a true country crooner, like he had been singing like that all his life. and mctowns lyrics are always terrific and collaborating with garry brought out the best in both of them. and when garry broke out his guitar, the joint went wild, he could wake up any midnight beer drowser.

Love how this has a kind of Paul McCartney plays in a honky tonk after midnight vibe to it! So fun and catchy. That "Ask me to do it again" break is especially great. And @davidtaro, would never know your vocals were feeling shaky, these are as great as ever -- the doo doo doo doos towards the end are especially fun. Great collab, y'all!

This that bop! Such a rich composition/production. The instrumentation is so wild. Guitar are slick. Vox are powerful. RAWK!

@sbs
There’s a new style - a bit country in the verse. The chorus is especially fun! Dancing in my head!
