Skyclad

Liner Notes

I have skinny dipped a handful of times in my life and I always encourage such behavior. To be clad by the sky, such a joy. This song calls the listener to action, to strip oneself and slip into the water as a child free of possession, thought, voice.

This piece inspired from my Grimoire Zero prose piece "Skyclad". If there is magic in this world, night swimming is certainly a part of that.

Took two hours from sitting down to final demo. I was walking around the house singing "Moonshot" to myself prior to my nightly session and the carry over feels heavy on the hook. Something to examine more closely once 50/90 is over.

Lyrics

Sky Clad

[capo 1]
c - e7 - am - d7
the breeze blows on a distant shore
a crystal lake away from it all
the moonlight reflects all of your thoughts
and holds your peace night after night
it's time to slip away once again
leave your clothes right on the floor
f g c
and go skyclad

the city abuses your poor mind
running around nearly all the time
and all the thoughts that scream in your head
need a refugee from the daily grind
it's time to slip away once again
leave your clothes right on the floor
and go skyclad

the waves ripple as the breeze moves in
communicating with no words at all
the lakes imperfect lines fill the space
of all of the time you hesitant
it's time to slip away once again
leave your clothes right on the floor
and go skyclad

the lonely loon refuses to call
until your space is occupied
disrobe and step toward the lake
lower yourself into it's gentle embrace
it's time to slip away once again
leave your clothes right on the floor
and go skyclad

[outro]

d7 e7 am
a small slice of peace it wanes away like the moon
if you had eyes they'd be closed but you have no eyes
no body, self at peace, set free
she has received you and you her sky clad

This was the song I needed to hear this morning. For me it felt like a reminder to shed all kinds of expectations (real and imagined) and just be a being. I like all the images of the lake and what a great phrase.

I love the title and your description of the lake is wonderful (and enticing.) The melody is a good one, too.

I really like the light, almost carefree feel to the song - reminiscent of what it must feel like to "go skyclad". The melody is so lovely - beautiful vocals too - and the light minimal guitar. It sounds like an excellent acoustic one-take - like you are sitting outside at night by the water. A very compelling campaign for skinny dipping!
