I've been trying to push myself out of my compositional comfort zone, so this is a completely #improvised and totally live #ambient performance with no overdubs or edits, played on Korg Wavestate Mk2, Roland Juno-106, Eventide H90, Chase Bliss MOOD Mk2 and Heavyocity's "Shimmer" MicroFX plugin.

What you hear is how it happened, so it's not perfect; the MOOD feeds in to the H90 and one of them tends to overcompress its input (you can hear the pumping), but it was a fun thing to make.

Edit (Sep 16th): Nope, that pumping was bugging me much too much for me to leave it be. I did a deep dive into the Ableton set and found an unobtrusive "Dynamic" setting in MicroFX Shimmer that was the root cause of the problem. New remix sounds much more like the performance did when I played it. Happy now.

I like the metallic tapping "melody". The concise notes work well over the huge, reverb - I don't know what to call it - wash? The ghostly voice in space scream? That consistent low section grounds it. I wish I had better words to discuss. Maybe into the weeds of a newly discovered and complicated planet that humans are unprepared to explore, but are doing so anyway.
