Liner Notes

I was back from my holiday last night, but arrived after the neighbour's "noise" curfew, so I had no access to gear. This was initially lyrics only, but it was late, so I didn't post it then. Besides I had a n idea for an arrangement and I wanted to make this fuller version demo before posting it.

Instrument: Greek Tsouras (the Alto of the Bouzouki Family)
Backing by Band in a Box

#celtic #folk

Lyrics

(Dm) I have a souvenir mug
Of when in Bul(Bb)garia we (Dm) stayed
But its (C) trips through the dishwasher
Have (Dm) made its images fade
The (Bb) same thing has happened
To my (Dm) memories of that trip
The (F) details, out of my (C) mind,
Have (Dm) long since slipped

Proust (Bb) had his madeleines
Tesla's (Dm) memory was famed
Rach(Gm)maninov had scores of scores
(Dm) Running round his brain
No (Bb) photographic memory
(Dm) Have I ever had
And (C) losing my experiences
(Dm) Really makes me sad

(Dm) My wife and I have differences
About (Bb) incidents in our (Dm) past
Some(C)times the discrepancies
Are (Dm) well and truly vast
These di(Bb)vergences too often
Have (Dm) led to high tension
And I (F) wonder if (C) we've both been
in (Dm) parallel dimensions

CHORUS

(Dm) I am terrified one day
With de(Bb)mentia I will (Dm) wake
My (C) brain in another cosmos
Would (Dm) lead to such heartbreak
We've watched (Bb) two of our loved ones
(Dm) Slowly disintegrate
It's a (F) living hell for (C) all involved
There can (Dm) be no crueller fate

Repeat last couplet

I can’t even blame age for the way my memory sometimes differs wildly from the way another remembers a conversation or how we met. I too am terrified of dementia. Scary song!

yeah mate we are of an age where the memory becomes an issue. as one with a great memory always i feel it waning. love the bouzouki.

Wow! A truly cross-cultural song - Celtic style with Greek instrumentation and a souvenir mug from Bulgaria. I should be in a taverna in the Plaka as I listen to this.

Excellent lyrics and great vocal delivery and music. Enjoyed listening. You really have some great, memorable lines in there. This was emotionally moving and the part about the married couple being in parallel universes was something I'm sure many can or could relate to.
