Every Man Dies Alone

Liner Notes

YIKES! Well--THIS is a "cheery" one. Probably should have a Trigger Warning.

But, I mean--what are you going to do with a Title like this one (which showed up randomly on the spreadsheet I keep of title ideas)?

So...I hope everybody out there's okay. Have a swell weekend! And I hope you, um, "enjoy" the song!

EVERY MAN DIES ALONE

In the chambers of our hearts,
we lie in wait,
Like shadows of
a long-forgotten tale.
We search the skies
for solace or a sign,
But EVERY MAN DIES ALONE,
behind the veil.

CHORUS:
EVERY MAN DIES ALONE, my friend,
In the twilight of a life
that's just once known.
In the silence of the dark,
our knees will bend,
For EVERY MAN DIES ALONE.

The heroes of our time,
they rise and fall,
In battles fought on streets
that bear their name.
But when the curtain calls,
they take their bow,
For EVERY MAN DIES ALONE,
as will their fame.

And even love can't
breach the final gate,
The lovers in the night,
they grasp and hold.
But each will die alone
in sweet embrace.
Their whispers soft
like secrets never told.

CHORUS:
EVERY MAN DIES ALONE, my friend,
In the twilight of a life
that's just once known.
In the silence of the dark,
our knees will bend,
For EVERY MAN DIES ALONE.

In the autumn of our years,
we turn to face
The echoes of
a thousand shattered dreams.
And as the darkness falls,
we find our peace,
For EVERY MAN DIES ALONE,
or so it seems.

So let us sing and dance
before the end,
And raise our glass to honor
those who've flown.
For in the end,
we all must face the truth:
That EVERY MAN DIES ALONE
...dies alone.

CHORUS:
EVERY MAN DIES ALONE, my friend,
In the twilight of a life
that's just once known.
In the silence of the dark,
our knees will bend,
For EVERY MAN DIES ALONE.

Awesome write! A powerful message delivered with a catchy tune. I agree with @billwhite51, this would make for some perfect end credits music.

We enter this world and leave it etc...somehow, you make it sound not too bad with this song...remember those who have gone before and make sure to enjoy what time is left before the great inevitable...
Maybe, it's the catchy music and deft lyric that uplifts the truisms lying within...either way, another good 'un, Jerry!

This is certainly a sad title, but your lovely reassuring melody and vocals, soothing and beautifully poetic lyrics, and light touch in the instrumental track delivers the message in a very easy to listen to musical package! I love where you took the last verse - beautiful uplifting imagery and a wonderful take away.

You have such a poetic way of saying things, that it's easier to hear these thoughts! It's got a great message tucked in there too! (sing & dance, raise our glass to those who've flown...which is a lovely idea). Music and melody keeps it upbeat but the title keeps the message in tact. And there's all kinds of messages for songs! Nicely done.

Buck up son! You are only alone if you choose to be! In your mind I mean, unless of course you are a in a spaghetti western. Nice flow to this dark one.

the place for this song is in the end credits of an Italian Western. I think i would love it if i saw it in that context. but where would you place it in today's vapid market? maybe some hard core speed metal band could get some milage out of it. but it wouldnt be the same. it wouldnt even have to be italian. i would eat this up as the titles went up on any good western.

Well, this is cheerful! I guess this is true, but I was for a few years working with hospice patients, just so they wouldn't be alone. This is really powerful!

Whether human or beast, each us begins a path and it ends at some point too. Being alone can be good and being alone can be sad. All we really have in this material world is a connection to others as well as the self, so the title hook and words which are so eloquently beautiful will surely reach hearts including my own and get us to think and reflect. Another very good song!! You seem to keep crankin em out!!

Hank Williams sang "I'll Never Get Outta This World Alive" and even as obvious as that and this might be, it's definitely not a bad idea to remind ourselves occasionally. Smooth as silk on the music and really great craftmanship on the lyrics.
