Art About Art

Liner Notes

OK I'm going for the whole speed thing, a song a day, whatever happens and see if I get a few ideas by the end. Those of you who post hundreds of songs, blame yourselves for what you're about to listen to. (I love you really).

Lyrics

As usual I’m going to start
With a self-referencing song about songs
Art about art
Expressing the sensation
Of fabulous creation
The sort of shit I always complain about

You want three chords and the truth?
That’s what I’ve got

When you go to a museum
And the first thing you see on
The exhibition wall
Is a picture that pretends
To be the begining of the end
Of western tradition, that’s all

I close my eyes and sigh
And wonder why

It’s not about the iniquities
Of a worn-out society
gender pay-gaps and modern slavery
Just some shite about
The tyranny of linearity

I wouldn’t call it shit
More like a fart

Like a vertical full English breakfast
Served in a fancy hotel
With tomato stems for colour
But they’ve forgotten to cook the bacon properly
(Represented visually)
That’s art

Returning to the subject of me
Having my first go at 50/90
except the first month is done
And this is my first song
So be it

Hello, this is me playing F# and B
Repeatedly
Wondering why you all can’t see
My deathless artistry
Ungrateful bastards.

You make this mix of really simple rhymes and really surprising juxtapositions sound so easy to come up with.
LOL at the unprinted "with a capo obv's'ly"
Loved listening to this.

So funny and entertaining...pure joy as a listener...that guitar playing is soooo good and that 'deathless artistry' needs more appreciation from those 'ungrateful bastards' for sure!

I'm sitting here grinning. The laconic, exasperated delivery is *perfect* (the sort of thing I imagine Stewart Lee doing if he decided to turn his hand to songwriting). And there's genuine emotion in this; that little, sighed "God..." could not be faked. Last verse is genius and honestly had me laughing out loud.
